Wouldlove2travelmore's review....

of Point Village, Negril......

Glad you enjoyed the lush surroundings at the resort. You state you read reviews and received advice from this forum before picking your resort......why are you surprised by the rooms then? I for one definitely say they are not posh and basic. Point Village is not like any of the mega A/I's which sounds like would have been better for you to spend your hard earned money on, especially since this was a birthday present for your boyfriend.....oh, how did he like it? you never stated!

As for a bellman, ha! if you would have asked someone would have helped you to the third floor (the highest floor!) with your luggage......once again it's not a posh place, yes there is no elevators! or bellman! We have never had a problem with this and have always been shown to our room and offered help with luggage or such!

You state you would go to Negril again, just not PV- I hate to tell you that you will probably have power outages and or water outages anywhere else too................it's not isolated to Point Village......

I LOVE POINT VILLAGE!

"I LOVE POINT VILLAGE!"

Have not looked at the review but I also make it clear that the rooms are basic.

Secondly, you certainly get escorted to the room.

Jamaicakaye

I'm not really shocked by the review. I'm always embarrassed for the people who have to lug their own luggage around without much help. Greetings...well, you get none. They don't need to do the Grand Lido version but they should do something. It's really all about management but the GM is afraid to stick her neck out and think out of the box (I know, stupid expression).

We know about power outages but new tourists don't. Not much we can do about that.

Bathroom tiles can be a problem since the hotel doesn't own the rooms, but that's another story.

But now we have cable, 40 channels, so there.

Me thinks she tends to exaggerate. There's usually a grain of truth to the reviews though. Our bathroom was far from perfect when we were there in Feb.

Ive stayed at point village and I think its not all its cracked up to be. I wouldnt stay there in a hurry, I think there are better places in Negril. If you have a complaint the management don't care. We were without water for nearly 48 hours and every time we went to the desk the manager wasnt available. Yes I agree the best thing about the place are the grounds, oh the little beach is nice too. I wouldnt go back there in a hurry.

It's all about expectations. I think this person expected 5 star service at 3 star prices. Doesn't matter how much time they spend on this forum, people have an image in their head of a US or Canadian hotel and really do not have a clue as to what to expect in other parts of the world...therefore, they become disappointed.

Personally, I can easily do without TV, geez, when I first came to Negril there wasn't ANY electric on my side of the road period! I remember when cable TV came to Negril...not too long ago. Congrats to PV for finally getting the 40 channel cable deal but I personally love the disconnect from TV for 2 months. I have a TV card in my computer but don't do the TV thing at all, or hardly at all.

I feel bad for people who come to Jamaica on vacation and television is a huge issue.

Rastagirl

TV is no different than that laptop you'll be using. It keeps me connected to the outside world. Some of the biggest political events have happened while I was in Negril. Bagdad's shock n awe for instance.

If you really believe that tv is a crazy thing then leave your laptop at home.

I didn't mean to bash TV watchers. (face: blushing)

I'm a complete TV-aholic...I use it as a sleep aid for god's sake. I just think it's a silly thing to complain about when you are in a country like Jamaica, especially for a relatively short time.

I feel you though since you spend quite a bit of time at your place at PV - when I first moved to the town I live in now, we only got one TV station via an attenae on our roof - and 50% of the programming were infomercials. After about 5 years of that nonsense, we broke down and went satellite dish. Cable TV didn't come to our little town until a year and a half ago (same for high speed internet - I had DSL in JA before I had it here)

Did I mention we live only an hour and fifteen minutes from San Francisco?

As to the laptop - I'd love to leave it home, but I really need to stay in touch and that's the easiest/cheapest way for me to do it. I'm gone for 2 months but my business keeps running...hey, every Thursday I still have to pay bills and prepare my books for my bookeeper. Plus, it's also our music device, we have a 30gig hard drive filled with all kinds of tunes that we play through the laptop.

Speaking of which, gotta load that baby up with stuff - 5 more sleeps!

Have a good trip rastagirl.

I think I may run down to Negril once or twice before you leave. Maybe I'll run into you.
