12 nights in PR: where to stay???

Hi,

The wife and I are planning a 12-night stay, and have been researching areas we want to stay. We're looking to be close enough to the 'action' but really want to have our 'base' be in a calmer area close to a nice beach... any suggestions?

We've seen some condo rentals located in Luquillo beach which look nice, but do you think we would get bored staying there?

Any feedback greatly appreciated!

Luquillo is wonderful, but being from the west side of the Island, I would have to recommend Rincon. There you will find anything from small, cozy inns to 4-star hotels. This is somewhere you should go if you are considering a calmer place. The beaches in the San Juan area are very nice as well, but the area is a bit more expensive and hectic. Therefore, I would suggest dividing your time between San Juan and Rincon. You'll definitely want to rent a car and go exploring.

Of course, you'll probably want to visit El Yunque while you're up in the Luquillo area.

Thanks dimi!

Just for reference, how far of a drive is it from San Juan to Rincon?

2 hours 1/2 . If you are going to stay in Rincon, stay at Rincon Beach resort or the Hornet Dorset. In 12 day you will have the opportunity to see all the Island. You should stay in 4 different areas; Condado, Fajardo, Rincon and Ponce.

Hi indo,

We stayed in Loiza. It was our first time visiting PR and we had a great time. The condo was 15-20min drive to SJ. Loiza is not too busy but it is not to far either. Pls look me up in the Loiza forum since I have made several comments about this place. You have El Yunque, Bacardi, El Conquistador within driving distance. We befriended a couple from Loiza, that also had children. These folks were truly kind. They took us around to see areas of Loiza you normally do not get to see, plus they took us to Piñones to their friends Kiosk, we enjoyed the typical food and the great music and dance. Besides Isla Verde, Condado and Old San Juan we were also able to visit other cities of the island, especially the ones south and west. Ponce was amazing...plenty of history. The website for the condo penthouse is owaovacation.com and as I indicated before the condo provided everything necessary for us to feel right at home, and their management team were friendly and extremely helpful. Enoy PR!!!

Loquillo is to far away. You should stay eother at Condado or in Isla Verde. The Isla Verde Beach Resort(Courtyard by Marriott) is right on thebeach. They also have a bar called Picante that has Live Salsa and latin music every night. they also have a casino. This hotel is more economical than all of the other beach resorts on the strip and they close to everthing.

With 12 days to spend in the Caribbean (lucky you) take your time and move around, If you arrive in San Juan check out the El Convento, beautiful, great location in the heart of old San Juan, make you way west via a stop in Dorado, and perhaps the Golden Door Spa, drop in on Rincon, and a few waves, for a few days, and be sure to check the B&B's as well as the hotels, from there you could head south, perhaps to Guanica, and the Copa Marina, Ponce is a nice day stop, great museems and retaurants, through the mountains and to the east Fajardo has big and small, the Conquistador, or Fajardo Inn, perhaps a ferry ride to Vieques or Culebra, and a night stay there, on you way back a visit to El Yunque, and end with a night on the strip in Isla Verde, 5 minutes from airport, great night life, beach, the ESJ, Ritz, Waterclub, all are great. Even if you split your holiday in 3, 4 nights in each area, enough time to relax, not long enough to get bored, remember, book early for the best, season starts around Thanksgiving! Enjoy!
