Luquillo to Ponce

On Saturday(!) We'll be driving from Luquillo to Guanica. It looks like there are two main choices on how to go - over the mountains on Route 52 or the roads that go along the coastline. We're not in a big hurry and like the scenic route but don't want to have to stop every ten minutes for traffic lights.

Anyone have some pro's and con's about which would be a better way to go? If it's raining, I assume it would be better to stick to Route 52 as it looks like a regular highway. Suggestions about interesting places along the way would be great too.

We did the exact same drive last month. The 52 is definitely faster and in better shape, lots of ups and downs through the mountains! We stopped for a quick bite to eat after getting a little turned around in Caguas. We also stopped at the Al Jibaro monument, just south of Cayey. It was a nice drive, lots of pretty vistas of mountains all around. It was wild to see the terrain go from green & lush to arid.

Have a great time!
