Staying At DoubleTree, How To Get Around?

So I'll be in Puerto Rico soon, from July 9th to around the 14th and will be staying at the DoubleTree in San Juan. In order to get around, should I rent a car? If so, will any company drop it off at the airport? Thank you!

Within San Juan you can use the bus system or cabs. Away from San Juan you will need a car. Suggest you rent a car at the ariport for the duration of you stay.

uni - I also suggest as Bob says. With a car you can get around to other parts of the island easily, as long as you stay out of rush hour traffic. Take the bus into Old San Juan. The Doubletree charges $15 to self park in an indoor garage or $20 valet. I paid the first night then I was able to find street parking a couple of blocks away the second night.

Hi unity007!

I work in the reservations office here at the Doubletree and saw your posting.

Along with what you have been told, you can definitely get around the nearby area walking or with buses or cabs. The Doubletree is only a short block and a half away from Ashford Ave., which is the main strip here in the Condado neighborhood and where you will find many shops, restaurants, bars and casinos. Ashford is also a beachfront avenue, so Ocean Park beach is right there for your enjoyment.

The A5 bus will get you into Old San Juan in about 30 minutes for .75 per person (B21 is another bus route you can take, only that the trip is a little longer) and stops right in front of the hotel. Conversely, a cab will take about 10-12 minutes to get into the Old City, but will run you about $14 or so.

Renting a car depends on what you want to do further out of the San Juan area. If you want to go to tourist areas like the Rain Forest, Camuy Caves, or the Bioluminescent Bay; you can go by car by yourself or set up a tour to any of these locations and more which anyone at the Front Desk can help you with. Also, going to Plaza las Americas Mall you would need either a car or a cab. The trip is only about 15 minutes on the highway and a cab will run you about $12.

You can rent a car directly from the airport and also drop it off there. There are also a few car companies that will pick you up at the hotel (Target, Enterprise and Charlie's Car Rental) if you choose to not rent a car on the day you arrive.

I hope I've been able to give you an idea of how to get around, but If there's anything else you want to know before you arrive feel free to contact me directly at daniella.moll@hilton.com
