I was at Copamarina last weekend for the top chefs activity (which was very well done by the way) and learned about a few changes happening at the hotel I thought might be useful information. Starting last month the hotel is now under the same management company as El Convento. Judging from the reviews for El Convento this can only mean good things for Copamarina. I briefly spoke with the new GM who was very nice and seems to be a great fit for the hotel. I was definitely able to feel a difference in the staff's vibes even though it's only been a month since the change. I never had major service issues before, but it just felt better somehow. He told me they will be renovating the rooms starting early next year and they will be given a more upscale and refined look. He even showed me a model room and I liked it very much. They will have a simple, clean, tropical style.
They have removed the sea grape plants that acted as fence between the beach and the open-air café so now when you are eating, you have unobstructed views of the ocean as well as the fact that they have almost doubled the length of their beach in doing so. They should have done it a long time ago because it is something so simple but it completely transformed that area.
Their chef Alfredo Ayala (very well known in Puerto Rico and regarded as one of the island's top chefs) had taken over the hotel restaurant and café several months back and will continue to do so. They have made some changes to the decor of the restaurant and café and have given it a more upscale and refined feel while still keeping it casual.
There will be more improvements made in the near future as well but overall, I'm excited about the future of my favorite weekend getaway.
I hope this information is helpful to the forums
