trip planning suggestions

We are interested in coming to PR for the first time and would love to hear what itinerary ideas you could offer us.

We are celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary and while we like some activity, we really just want to relax and enjoy the sun with a few things to do that allows us to take in the island.

We would fly in to San Juan and we are thinking 12-14 days total. While some city is okay we really want to be out in the quieter regions taking in beach and perhaps a day trip to a rain forest zip line tour. Would like to keep things on a budget. TIA to whatever suggestions you throw our way!

Rent a condo, rather than staying at a hotel. You can always head to the hotel for the Casinos, clubs, Golf and restaurants. There are several places up in the El Yunque Rain Forest which is actually a good location. Or concider heading to the West Coast. Spend a day or 2 at a hotel in San Juan, Wind down, see the sights. then head west to Rincon. Another thing to look at are the Paradors (Country Inns) They are about $100 a night and around the island in different locations. Do a few of those. 2 Weeks is a great trip. For seclution, head to Vieques or Culebra for a few days/week if you really want to get away from it all and relax.

thank you for the suggestions and quick response. Love the idea of a condo rental.

Are the day trips to Culebra easy to do and worth it, or do you suggest staying a couple of days on the island instead?

We are going to stay in San Juan for 2 days in a hotel, then 2 in Vieques, then a week in Luquillo (rented a condo there). That will be our home base and we can drive to visit El Yunque, snorkel on Culebra, and even go to Ponce is we want. The condo for a week was only $625, very affordable!
