We just returned from our first trip to Puerto Rico. We had a wonderful trip and cannot wait to return. We spent our entire time on the west coast of the island in Rincon. It was quiet this time of year, but we still have a wonderful time. We loved the relaxed environment! We had originally planned to spend the last two days of our trip in San Juan, but after two days in Rincon we canceled our reservations in San Juan.
Accommodations: Blue Boy Inn
We loved Blue Boy Inn. The reviews on Tripadvisor are 100% accurate. We couldn't have picked a better place to stay. I posted my full review over on the Blue Boy Inn page.
We ate at the following places in the area:
Banana Dang: Great coffee, smoothies, and grilled cheese
Calypso Cafe: Get the fresh fish plate with the beans and rice. It was so good we went there twice.
Pool Bar Sushi: Excellent sushi despite the fact that you're eating around a swimming pool. Don't let the look of the place keep you from going.
Casa Islena: Great food! It was our "nice" dinner while we were in the area. Skip the mixed drinks though. We wished we had ordered wine or beer.
Ode to the Elephants: Wonderful Thai food with a spectacular view. The waitstaff could be a little more friendly though.
Guayabos Tropical Sunset: Just a few minutes north in Aguada. Great local Puerto Rican food. Try the mofongo or the mahi mahi in cilantro sauce.
Cabo Rojo - We visited the lighthouse and hiked around the limestone cliffs. There were tons of iguana hanging out on the cliffs.
La Parguera Bioluminescent Bay: We did the biobay tour with Paradise Scuba. They actually let you get in the water and swim in the bay. So much fun!
San Sebastian Waterfall: About an hour or so from Rincon. Very cool spot. Mostly locals with their families. A really nice change of pace from the beach.
Snorkeling: Great snorkeling at Steps beach.
We had an amazing trip and can't wait to go back! We're thinking about possibly going in February when we're tired of the cold weather at home :)
