This has been discussed many times here. Here is a link to one of those discussions.

Many people say you need about 2,000 a month because of the utilities, especially water.

No, I don't think you can live in PR for $1026/month.

Seriously, look for Philipines, I do know some people live there, but don't expect luxury either.

Definitely not enough.. Small apartment rental, electric and water would eat it all up.

I would look into the Dominican Republic.

If your Canadian I'd check out Cuba.

But it's still going to be tight.

Philipines is more cheaper than DR, plus Filipinos speaks English well enough, or consider Panama. I did attended a seminar years ago when they introduced the best place to live out of retirement pay. Many of my working partner either live in PI or Thailand, but for what I heard from them Philipines is a better choice, and some end marrying Pinoys :) With their retirement, they live ok, but must budget their expenses, so must willing to pick a place that is not luxury, but nice enough. Is best to reaserch on other websites because TA is not really designed for this type of topic.

Tough decision, does not luxury in the Phillipines mean no running water? Sometimes we forget what we have.

Probably the best thing to do is google low cost retirement countries and go from there.

Puerto Rico is expensive. Rent and utilities alone will eat up your money.
