Puerto Rico vs. Turks and Caicos in Feb. for beach /towns?

We are thinking of going to Puerto Rico, Turks and Caicos, or Key West for a February 5 day vacation. We need calm waters, or to be close to calm waters for scuba/snorkling, as well as to be near a city to explore/ tour and catamaran sunset cruises. We would like to stay at a resort with nice pools , and on the beach. Any idea which would be better? Resorts to fit the bill?

Which would be warmer and easy to get to from East Coast?

Thanks

Have you been to any of the non Puerto Rico places before?

Some of Puerto Rico's best Scuba is off the eastern shore, but its not exactly like a lake there. For you what is the calm water to Scuba relationship? This will allow us to point you in a better direction.

Have been to Caymans, Virgin Islands, and Bahamas

never Puerto Rico. Looking for blue water, and calm, non-dangerous water not far from San Juan or other city/airport. Going with two adult sons, one who scuba dives, and one who snorkles. Love sunset catamarin(spel)

boat trips. Looking for nice hotel for family/adult sons with nice beach too and pool/pools.

Thanks!

Have been to Caymans, Virginia Islands, and Bahamas.

Looking for nice beach /resort near interesting city/not far from airport.

Going with two adult sons, one who loves scuba diving. Looking again for nice hotel/pool, close to historic town, sunset cruises nearby....not isolated, yet not in middle of city...Don't know where to stay at either place- also cost to get there from D.C/cost in general for hotels?.

Was spoiled by Caymans in terms of gorgeous water, so wondered if Turks and Caicos better for water...but love to sight see, and love not flat and dry land....??

Thanks!!

Doesn't sound to me like PR ticks all your boxes. I've been to several of the places you mentioned. PR doesn't have the typical Caribbean feel it seems you are looking for. Have you looked at Grenada or St Lucia? Both great islands to explore and some great diving.

Have not looked at Grenada or St. Lucis as yet. Someone said Barbados.

Looking for island that has supurb medical care also and not too expensive to get there from the East Coast.

We loved Caymans and Frenchman's Reef and Virgin Islands because they had gorgeous water, and loved the hills in the Virgin Islands.

We had thought of PR, just to have some green as well as history and beaches....any place in PR that would fit that bill?

We now have : Atlantis, Bahamas (more activities for mid/late 20's sons-

Turks and Caicos(may be too quiet), PR, and will now look into Grenada and St. Lucis if good medical care.

Also good place to snorkle and scuba that won't be too cold or rainy in mid to late February

Thanks!

I have been to all those islands mentioned and I can't say any of them will tick all your marks. PR ticks a number of marks, but diving/snorkeling in Feb and near a city.... you will have to drive about 45 mins for those. Maybe stay midway between the city and the diving/snorkel trips- like in Rio Grande or Luquillo.

We stayed on Providenciales in Turks and Caicos and the most exciting thing there was the conch farm. Maybe some of the other islands are better. It was a long boat ride to good diving too.

St Lucia and Barbados are 2 of my favorite islands. But not so much for the diving or "cities". Just great nature and food, we did dive there, it was ok. Grenada is dead for things to do other than spices- really quiet island.

Have you looked at Cozumel? It has amazing diving/snorkeling, great town to hang out in, ruins/history and great beaches.

Best SCUBA in PR is the wall in La Parguera, Desecho Island, and over in Culebra and Vieques. SCUBA off the east coast of the big island is not that good.

There are good locations in Culebra that can be combo snorkel/SCUBA spots for different members of your party.

Note that reefs in PR are not world-class by any means. Other islands mentioned might be better option of the underwater world is your #1 thing.

Thanks Everyone for all your advice. I appreciate it!

Few more questions:

In February is the water warm for swimming /air warm

in the Bahamas, Puerto Rico and Turks and Caicos?

Resorts midway in Puerto Rico/green/blue calm water/safe swimming?

Re: your mention of medical care, few if any of the locations mentioned outside of PR and Florida will have significant facilities for serious problems. Most will medivac to PR. PR has a significant infrastructure to serve its 4 mill US citizens.

Puerto Rico sounds good for many reasons, and have ruled out Bahamas in February due to temperature.

Last place looking into is Barbados for all above and good vacation and good

health care. Any thoughts on Barbados?

Again, thanks!
