Looking for some input on where to stay in Puerto Rico

We are looking to go to Puerto Rico for the first time in late February for a week. We are an unmarried couple in our early fifties - he wants to fish and explore a little, I want beach time - we like to walk and explore little shops and bars - all inclusive is an option although it doesn't appear very prevelant - a clean, well kept property is important to me - we don't want to be right in the large city and don't plan to rent a car - thoughts and ideas appreciated!

Deep sea fishing is an option, but you are looking at about $600 for a half day charter. There is some shore fishing. For great beaches you will want to head to the outer islands of Culebra or Vieques. But there are some good one on the main island. All inclusives do not exist. Metro San Juan is over 2 million people. It has a bus system and tourist cabs, once you get away from the city, you need a car. Exploring little shops and bars would be best in Old San Juan, but you are in the big city. Rincon on the west coast would be a good option, but without renting a car, transportation is cost prohibitive. You might consider the El Conquistador on the east coast and arracnge transportion with them. THey have a very nice private island with a great beach. But without a car you will be pretty much stuck on the resort. Good luck

Most of the hotels and tourist attractions are in and around the city of San Juan which has a very large metro area. Without a car for transport outside the city you have few options except to stay in a resort and eat at the resort's restaurants which can be expensive. There are no all-inclusive resorts in Puerto Rico. The best shopping is in San Juan.

As PRBob, mentioned above, the El Conquistador Resort 45 minutes from San Juan is a good choice and so is the Westin Rio Mar Resort. The St Regis Bahia Beach Resort is newer and more luxurious than the aforementioned resorts.

sounds like Villa Parguera in the south coast of Puerto Rico is perfect for you: outside big city, fishing as sport and next to small restaurants and local shops. check it here http://www.villaparguerahotel.com/

Boqueron in Cabo Rojo would also suit your needs.
