Looking for quiet, relaxing, beach, & proximity to El Yunque

So, I am planning on going to PR with my sweetie for my birthday. I want to unplug -- relax on the beach and go hiking in El Yunque. We've been to PR several times, so no need to go to San Juan. Suggestions?

Check Luquillo (aka Balneario La Monserrate) or Seven Seas in Fajardo.

Luquillo Beach can get crowded as it is popular, I would rather go to Seven Seas Beach during the week.

Luquillo beach is a great, Blue Flag, beach quite close to El Yunque. I can get very crowded especially during summer and weekends. The beach at the Rio Mar resort is very nice. While not as calm as Luquillo, I prefer to have a light surf to swim in. It is generally very quiet. At the gate let them know you are going to one of the restaurants or the casino and they will happily let you in. You will have to pay to park at the hotel. There is a self park just past the hotel which is a bit cheaper. Any one has the right to use the public beach and they happily take your money at the Tiki bar next to the beach (credit cards only).

Seven Seas Beach is also a Blue Flag Beach and the water is much clearer.

Thanks for all of your replies. Aside from Rio Mar, do you have any hotel recommendations at Luquillo or Seven Seas Beach? Thanks!

As far as I know there aren't any other hotels at the Luquillo beach, and at Seven Seas Beach. El Conquistador in Fajardo would be the closest.

Did you want to stay on the beach? Luquillo sunrise inn, while not very upscale gets fantastic recommendations. If you wanted to stay in a rental near both rainforest and the beach check out Coqui's Hideaway here on TA It also gets great reviews!

You didn't really say what kind of lodging you were looking for. There are a couple of upscale resort type hotels in Rio Grande if that is what you are interested in. The Rio Mar is very close to El Yunque and has its own beach that is not terribly crowded. The Grand Melia is nearby too, but I've never been there. I believe it's a Trump property so you can guess what its like.

But the Rio Mar is $$$. The up side is that it's close to the rain forest, Luquillo, Fajardo and is a lot quieter than San Juan. As other posters mentioned there are also a number of lower key options available in the area.
