Home base between San Juan and Fajardo

Looking for recommendations for places to stay between San Juan and Fajardo. Preferentially something on the beach, not too busy but not a ghost town either. Well have a car and will be doing daily excursions to various parts of the island. Would be nice if we find something where you wake up with view of the beach and water, venture out for the day by car and come back and enjoy the evening at some local bar or restaurant. We're two pretty laid back people who don't need a wealth of luxury.

The options are Loiza, Rio Grande or Luquillo, all closer to Fajardo.

Try Luquillo and the The Sunrise Beach Hotel. Read the reviews on TripAdvisor. It's close to the Kioskos of Luquillo and many of PR's attractions like the rain forest, Luquillo Beach, the Fajardo biobay, Marina del Rey for catamaran snorkeling excursions and the ferries to Vieques and Culebra.

If not, you may want to think about Rincon on the west coast of PR with its very low key Caribbean feel.

If you choose Luquillo, you could rent a condo at one of the high rise buildings which would fulfill your waking up with a full view of the beach and the water as well as enjoying your evening at some local bar or restaurant. You can peruse condos for rent at www.homeaway.com.
