3 day get away

Happy new year !!!

Looking to go away for my 40th birthday for some R&R. The catch is I only can go away Thursday (1/23-26) to Sunday . Leaving from boston we are looking into PR because we never have been & it's only 4 hours. Any suggestions on hotels or any input would be wonderful .

Thank you for help,, I truly appreciate it.

My wife and I have stayed at Tre Palmas Inn in Ocean Park a few times and loved it. It's more of a boutique B&B than a hotel, but we have always found it to be very comfortable and welcoming, although Ocean Park may not suit everybody's taste as a base. Other thsn that we have stayed at Hotel Milano in OSJ which was OK. Our best stay was renting an apartment on OSJ, which was a great base, and meant we could always eat somewhere different.

What kind of accomodations do you prefer? Do you want a large resort or a smaller one? Do you want a beach front property? Do you want to be in the city or away from it? Do you want nightlife? Are you willing to rent a car? Give us some information about yourself so we can help you.

Hello thank you both for your input.

We are thinking a nice resort ( size doesn't really matter ) beach front would be preferred.

Wasn't planning on renting a car ., but would be open to it if there is place to stay that is worth it.

We are truly looking to relax , nightlife isn't that important . Because we are only away for 3 days maybe a place that doesn't have a ton of kids ( we are leaving our 2yr old behind ) . Great food , drinks & maybe spa is what are main focus is one , but since this is our first visit & the city is the part of the island we could be persuaded.

Thank you very much

My husband and I went to the Embassy Suites in the Isla Verde area of PR last February. The breakfast is included (they have everything including cooked to order omelets). They have a 2 hour manager's reception every night with free drinks and snacks. Pool is nice. It's not on the beach but it's less than a 5 min walk. They have a hotel guy there to give you free umbrella, chairs and towels. There's a Fridays and some other restaurant inside the hotel but many other choices in walking distance. If you end up staying in the area, definitely go to Metropol for dinner. It was so so delicious! We took the public bus to Old San Juan one day. It took forever but only 75 cents/person vs a $20 cab ride.

You should stay in San Juan, which is close to the airport, and has nightlife in case you want to have some fun.

The Water Beach Club in Isla Verde, which is an adults-only hotel. It's a really great boutique hotel with a rooftop pool and bar overlooking the ocean. The hotel is very chic and modern, has a beach front, and it's located in a cul-de-sac area, away from the busy main street (but only steps from it, and the other hotels and restaurants). I stayed at this hotel last week for 4 nights, and highly recommend it.

There's restaurant across the street from the beach, at the entrance of the cul-de-sac where the hotel is that is fun and serves good authentic food.

Hi Jenny, San Juan is an excellent choice. The flight time is closer to 31/2 hours from Boston, but thats non stop which is Jet Blue only and about $100 extra pp. ( worth it in my opinion, no vacation wasted for travel) . The Isla Verde area has the best beach and beachfronts. The Water Club is nice, but the Intercontinental and El San Juan offer a little more in the way of amenities. Be careful before you rule out nightlife. San Juan is not Boston and the nightlife there is more grown up than the post college nonsense in Boston. The El San Juan has great onsite nightlife and a number of good to excellent restaurants and a casino. The Intercontinental is next door, so if you want it a little quieter , you can choose that as well. Many posters try to cram as much activity into their trips as possible, but my experience is once you get to San Juan at the tail end of a Boston winter, the urge to just lay out and relaxc is difficult to overcome. An afternoon in Old San Juan, a few nice restaurants, will usually do the trick and as I said, absent complications, the trip back is pretty easy so you get back feeling like you actually had a vacation.
