Mondays/Tuesdays

I have read in various places that the beaches are closed on Mondays and Tuesdays at this time of year. What exactly does that mean?

some public beaches are, where are u staying and what public beaches are you thinking about visiting? Often when they speak of beaches being "closed", they mean that the parking lot is not open and their are not lifeguards on duty or beach camping allowed.

We are staying at Isla Verde, but I am interested in Luquillo Beach. Will there be chair/umbrella rentals and food available?

For the Balneario at Luquillo- no- no facilities this time of year on Mon/Tues. No rentals will be available.

Food though-not at the beach food stand, but you can walk down the beach to the kiosks (not that long of a walk).

When the Balneario (government run beaches) are "closed", it means the gates are locked, so you would have to park outside the gates and walk through. The maintenance crew is usually there, so the beach is usually clean. But no: life guard, bathrooms, showers, vendors, information etc.

It's a good time for a snorkeling trip and a trip to El Yunque. Shops are open in Old San Juan also.

Exactly where would one park outside the Luquillo Beach gates? (Last year we went to Seven Seas on a Monday and parked in a deserted kind of park and crawled through fences, etc. There were a few local people on the beach and the water was terrific.) But where would you park safely near Luquillo and how long would the walk be? Thanks.

I have just parked right outside the parking gates on the road. There is a walking entrance to get in right at that gate. No problems.

When we went, there were other people parked there, we had no problems.

You could park at the Kiosks (more people around) and walk onto their beach and then walk to the right toward the cleaner Monseratte area.

There is alsoa narrow street behind the kiosks where you can access a narrow (also) strip of sand under the almond trees, where you can park, and as Flowerfarmsaid, walk to you right to a cleaner part of the beach.
