Hi

I am thinking shuttle BUT once you are at Rio Mar you will need a car to go anywhere unless you want to pay for cabs.

Rent a car if you are going to venture off the resort

Rainforest

Old San Juan

Forts

Bio bay

cheaper eating

Check the cost of the shuttle per person, since the txi will charge for the trip, not for number of persons doing the transfer, up to five persons... On the lung run, a taxi might be cheaper.

Thanks . I thought the rainforest was within walking distance from the resort. (right nxt door or across the way) Am I missing something? We have to stay at the rio mar because we are using time share points so we didn't really research it.

You need to rent a car unless you want to eat your meals, etc at the resort. It is not walking distance to the rainforest or any activities outside the resort.

The forrest is pretty close, but not within walking distance. Renting a car will allow you to move around the Rio Grande-Luquillo -Fajardo area which has a lot places to see, dine & do...

Prices for food, etc are high at the reosrt (like most other resorts). If you are looking to save some money, a rental is the way to go. Just the transportation to and from the airport can be higher than what you'd pay for a rental. There are some really good restaurants within a short driving distance of Rio Mar. Also, there is no need to do a tour of the rainforest. Just take your car and go.

Definitely rent a car. Car rentals are so inexpensive here that with the cost of airport transfers a car for a week will pay for itself. Go for the most inexpensive car rental agency you find at Travelocity. If you are renting a Villa at the Wyndham Rio Mar these have an assigned parking free of charge. If you are staying at one of the hotel rooms they charge you around $20 per night for parking.

Yes, you are missing something... The Rio Mar is a master planned community that is quite large and includes the resort, villas, condos and two golf courses. It is the closest resort to El Yunque, it will take you about ten- fifteen minutes, by car, to get to the main entrance of El Yunque Rainforest. In addition, there is nothing that is in walking distance to the resort, so unless you plan on eating there for all your meals, you really should consider renting a car. Have a great time!

I concur with renting a car which is what we did when we stayed at the Rio Mar. Make sure you rent the car at SJU not at the resort where Avis charges a higher rate to rent at the Rio Mar or to return the car at the Rio Mar. SJU is to the East of San Juan and the Rio Mar is further East so there is no San Juan traffic to drive in to get to the Rio Mar from SJU..
