Hilton Property with 2 yr old- opinion?

Hello!

We are going to PR for Thanksgiving with our 2 year old. We are using Hilton points to stay for free. Before our daughter was born we spent THanksgiving at the Caribe Hilton and enjoyed it. But the beach was very small and if we had our daughter, we would stay in the Lagoon Villas to have a seperate room for her which I hear are not so great?

Are one of the other Hilton properties nicer? The obvious benefit of the Caribe is the location. The great thing about chosing PR is we can take our 2 year old anywhere and feel safe so we would like to be able to get to town easily.

Any suggestions?

The La Casitas village at the El Conquistador is a Conrad property and very nice.

We stayed at the Lagoon Villas pre and post cruise this past January. They are very nice. If you did not like the beach at the Caribe you are not going to like the beach at the Conrad which has a beach on a much smaller lagoon. The only other Hilton which has a beach in San Juan is the El San Juan which is on the very nice Isle Verde beach.

Th beach of the Waldorf Astoria El San Juan is the nicest beach in San Juan Metro area. It is also a very long beach which is great for walking. The beach is Isla Verde beach. The Isla Verde area where the El San Juan is at is the best area of Isla Verde.

This is why I love TripAdvisor - thanks for the quick and great advice. The Waldorf looks amazing! At first glance I did not want to look into it because it has a casino which I did not think would be child friendly. But looking at it now....it looks absolutely gorgeous!! Plus they are having a promotion to book it for the same # of points as the Caribe, which it usually costs more points.

One quick question - you mention the area of Isle Verde is very nice....does this mean that there are shops/restaraunts/little town to walk around in close to the hotel? Or would we take a longer cab ride into Old San Juan for that?

Actually - in reading many of the TA reviews of Waldorf - the noise seems to be an issue. With a 2 year old that naps in the middle of the day and goes to bed earlier than us...noise is a huge issue with us. And I dont know if we could easily get a 2nd room at the Waldorf. The Lagoon Villas actually do sound nice. (dont know what I was reading on them before.

It just seems I have to choose either:

1) Best location with secluded but small beach

OR

2) Best Beach with noise/night clubs, casinos, not as convenient location.

Guess I just want it all. :-)

Couple things. The Casino's in PR are relaively small. 10k sq ft. THey are more for the entertainment of the Hotel guests rather than the hotel supporting the casino. Usually off to the side in there own little section. They would not be a problem even walking past.

Isla Verde is a mile long cresent beach that is great for walking etc. It is lined on the beach side with resort hotels and apartment building. High rise type. Across the Blvd which really is a 2 lane road with parking on both sides. Are shops, restaruants, fast food etc. Not as nicely laid out as the Condado. But everything is there that you would need.

I think thought the El San Juan felt a lot like Vegas and I did not like the service there at ALL. You are nickeled and dimed to death there which gets old FAST. I've have much more positive experiences at the Embassy Suites across the street and you will have a suite, with daily breakfast, with free happy hour, with casino and SUPERB pool and kiddie pool with kiddie swingset. I stayed at El San Juan on my HHonors points off-season, it was my least favorite place because it does not have a warm welcoming feeling like Embassy, Caribe or even Hampton, which is surprisingly fantastic!

I went crazy reading all of the TA reviews while trying to use our HH points. I wanted to stay at the Embassy Suites in Dorado after all of my reaserch, but I could never get a non-smoking room with HH points...no matter what date I put into the calendar. I had no problem getting a non-smoking if I just wanted a regular reservation. I called the hotel and got the "they must all be already booked" routine...but I tried to explain that I tried many different dates as we were flexible. Nobody could explain it to me. I have a feeling that they only offer the few smoking rooms that are in the whole hotel.

I wanted it all too..and just couldn't get it at any of the Hilton hotels. One was nice, but noisy. One had the private island and the funecular (sp) and I didn't want to be that far from the beach and deal with the hassle and all of the mold I read about. ( We have allergies and that would be a disaster to deal with). No Hilton property had what we wanted.

Sooo...we decided to save the HH points and stay in a condo instead. That's where I am right now and it was a good decision!!! :)

With kids, condo is the best way to go IMHO. Enjoy
