Know nothing about your beautiful island but eager to get suggestions! basketball courts/ games? Catamaran sails, must see places, evening entertainment, music/shows, casual friendly restaurants with great food ? Much appreciated, MTMB, Boston

Top 3 things to include a visit to Old San Juan, 1 of our biobays and a day in El Yunque. I hope you're renting a car. For food, stop by the kiosks on Route 3 in Luquillo (not far from the Gran Melia). Spend a day sailing and snorkeling with a trip out of Fajardo. Hopefully, you can plan the biobay for nights _other than_ Feb 14-19 ... the moon will be too bright those nights.

There a couple of very important things to keep in mind:

1. Transportation: you mentioned that you are teenagers, which means that you can't rent a car (the minimum age is 25). Gran Melia is located away from San Juan. You will need a car to get there. Taxi is your only option.

2. Activities: Gran Melia is located in an isolated area, the beach is not swimmable, and there is nightlife is pretty much unexistent. It's a great hotel, yes. But it's more suitable for relaxation purposes, honeymooners, business travelers, etc. For travelers your age I would not recommend this hotel. You might get very bored, very quickly.

I would strongly suggest staying in San Juan and maybe taking tours to El Yunque, bio bay, etc. In your case, this probably your best shot because being in San Juan will be make it much easier (and cheaper) to move around and get to other sites such as Old San Juan, which is only a short bus or cab ride. You can also walk to restaurants. There are also other things to do in San Juan: the beach, the casinos, evening entertainment.

I hope that this helps!

It is important to know their ages before advising much. There will be little time or opportunity for basketball at the hotels or nearby. They should concentrate on beach sports and other related activities. If they go to the beach, anywhere, bech paddleball is popular here and they can play with each other and make friends their own age at the beach. Isla Verde specially is a youth oriented beach area.

When you are at the Gran Melia, hit Liquillo beach very nice lots going on. Parking lot is closed on Monday. Very busy on weekends. El Yunque rain forest. Great hiking. They are part of the US national forest system. Go to the website and you can get info and trail maps. How about a snorkelling trip. There are several companies that do a sailing trip plus East Islands has power catamarans that will go all the way to Culebra. Do the Kayak toir of the Fajrado Bio-bay in the evening. At the Hilton, back in San Juan. Old San juan for sure. Teens should lover the forts. See the both. one guared from attack by sea, the other by land. There is a dungeon in one fo the tunnels. Segway tour of old san juan? Hilton has a nice beach and has activity, also great pool area.

Lots to do, they will not be bored. The advice about renting a car is very good advice, esp at Gran Melia.
