Plaza Las Americas is more or less 20 minutes, depends on traffic, from the ports.

cab costs around 20 dollars each way

they might speak english but remember english is not the main language of Puerto Rico (english is taught as a foreign language in schools) and you are outside the tourist zone, keep words ESL simple and being courteous goes a long way (excuse me, do you speak english?)

the list of stores is here www.plazalasamericas.net/

Plazas Las Americas is a large, upscale shopping mall anchored by JC Penny, Sears and Macey's. The "shopkeepers" in Macey's will try to sell you perfume and Polo shirts for $70. They do pretty well in English. The Outlet Mall in Canovares is about the same distance and a good bit cheaper.

There are over 300 shps in Plaza Las Americas. Not all of them are "american chains" . There are lots of local stores. You'll find everything there at different prices, nice AC, parking space, restaurants, movies, expositions, and special events such as artisan fairs and agro products, etc.
