I am beginning to plan a trip to PR for a week in April - Monday to Monday or Tuesday to Tuesday. The first 5 days we will be a group of 4 friends. The last 3 to 4 days my boyfriend will be joining us. While it's just the girls, we would like to:
- tour Old San Juan and its sites
- have easy access to a nice beach
- eat delicious authentic food (we love hole in the wall type restaurants and would probably also splurge for one or two fancy meals)
- enjoy nightlife
So, is there an area that meets all of the above or should we stay first in OSJ and then move to somewhere "beachier"? In my brief research through these forums, it seems Old San Juan is not near the nice beaches/ nightlife. What area/ areas do you recommend to stay in? We are hoping for a classy hotel for about $100 per person per night.
Then on Saturday the 14th I will leave for Rio Grande for a wedding at the Sol Melia. I plan on staying at that hotel on the night of 14th, at least. Is there a way to get there from San Juan via public transport? My boyfriend is interested in El Yunque so I think we will spend whatever remaining days we have in this area.
Does it sound like we need to rent a car?
Sorry for so many questions - I have never been to PR before and kind of don't know where to start!
