Not enough time to plan...

I'm heading down to San Juan this Thursday on a spur of the moment trip. I'm staying at the Holiday Inn Express near Condado Beach. I have a couple of questions:

1. Do we need a car if we play to do limited sightseeing?

2. Are there umbrellas for rent on the beach?

3. Anything we HAVE to do when we visit?

Thanks!

San Juan has a bus system that will get you to Old San Juan. Lots to see and do there. If you want to get out of the city and do something like the El Yunque Rain Forest. It's best to rent a car. There are rental agencies in the Condado, so you could just rent for the day. You might also consider a snorkeling trip and a Bio-bay tour. Most of the Snorkelling trip operators can provide transportation for a fee. Actually a good thing, since they offer food and unlimited rum drinks. With them driving you can have a good time and not worry about it. Check out East Island Excursions. They have some nice trips, One out to Culebra with a possible stop at Flamenco beach. Very nice. Or you can take a half day trip out to the Cays, which are also nice. If you do El Yunque, also stop at Liquillo beach. You can drink openly on the beaches, so just bring a cooler. We use a soft sided cooler as our carry on. Works great. Yes you can rent chairs and umbrellas on the beach. You can also hit the Walgreens and purchase a couple beach chairs. Probably cheaper in the long run.

Thanks Bob for the information. Renting a car to El Yunque was fast, easy, and the best thing to do. Much cheaper than tours offered by guides. Liquillo was a GREAT beach...one of our favorites from the trip.

Thanks!
