2 adults/3 kids....Marriott Stellaris or Crtyard Isla Verde?

My husband and I have been to La Concha but thought it might be too sophisticated/hip/trendy for a vacation with our 13, 11, and 7 year old kidss. Like the idea of Stellaris, but besides one day in San Juan, we plan to spend our time at Luquillo, bio bay in Fajardo, El Yunque, and on the beach and at the pool. We do plan to rent a car. Any thoughts about whether you'd choose the Courtyard or the Stellaris? We are using Marriott points. We have enough points for either (even though the Courtyard uses fewer). Mainly interested in the best location with kids, nicest beach and pool, and nicer/roomiest accommodations. NOT looking to stay at a non-Marriott hotel b/c we want to use our points. Is the Stellaris hotel a lot nicer than the Courtyard? Is the beach at Courtyard nicer than the Marriott? Which has better kid-friendly restaurants within a short walking distance? What would you estimate is the driving time between the two? Thanks, as always, TripAdvisor community!

The Courtyard has a better beach than the Marriott and is better for kids. On thing to know, the airport is very close to the hotel, so you can hear the planes taking off when you are outside. Also, the restaurants are not as centrally located as at the Marriott in Condado. The Courtyard is at the end of the main strip in Isla Verde, so walking to restaurants will be about 10 minutes. Driving between the Courtyard and The Marriott is about 15 minutes.

Make sure that they allow 5 people in the room. I have read that has been a problem at times

Thanks, and Bunny123 - we were planning on adjoining rooms; it's too annoying for us all to share 1 room (and 1 bathroom!). I am leaning toward the Marriott Stellaris b/c I think the area might be better. I was surprised to see that Trip Advisor recommends La Concha as a family friendly hotel. Am I wrong in my assumption that it was a little too trendy/sophisticated for young kids?

We are a family of 4 from NC and were at the Stellaris last April for 4 nights. We enjoyed all aspects of the hotel-staff,pool,casino. The pools towels were sometimes scarce though. We lucked out with a corner room facing the ocean-spectacular view) I think if you call a few days ahead of arrival to ask for a "free upgrade" they may oblige. The beach in front of hotel is serviceable but nothing spectacular. I too was looking at LaConcha last year and decided against it. I didn't consider the courtyard b/c it is so near the airport.

The proximity of the Stellaris to many excellent restaurants and the drugstore can't be beat. We LOVED eating at the hamburger joint just across from the Stellaris-sorry can't remember the name but it features hundred or so HOT SAUCES and the burgers are awesome. The sauces are fun to taste-my kids were 14 and 16 at the time. We too rented a car and drove ALL over-Fajardo(took an AWESOME day cruise on East Island Adventures to Culebra for snorkeling),Arecibo(to see the observatory),viejo San Juan. Since you've been there you are probably up to speed on all of the fun things to do. Hope this helps.

BTW, we are going back this year in March and staying on Culebra Island-beaches are to die for. :))
