Alcohol Question

We are going on a cruise in March and usually take on our own alcohol. We fly out of San Juan and was wondering if it is cheaper to buy our alcohol in California or in San Juan?

1. Re: Alcohol Question

Alcohol in PR is only cheaper when purchased at the duty free stores at the airport, on your way out of the island. The stores personnel request to see a boarding pass in order to sell the liquor.

So to answer your question, except for rum, liquor is not cheaper in San Juan. Wines are actually more expensive in PR than here in the US.

You may want to check the Cruiselines Policy in regards to bringing Liquor on Board. They may not allow it and keep it locked up till the end of the Cruise

The cruise lines are very strict about alcohol on board. You can purchase 2 bottles of wine at the port and have it delivered to your room. We want on RC a month ago and were able to smuggle vodka and gin on board at the various ports. However we also saw a lot of liquor confiscated and either thrown away or if packed by a duty free shop then it's held till the cruise is over.
