My husband and I will be spending seven nights in Old San Juan. The El Yunque Rainforest sounds like a nice day trip. Here are my questions:
1. Are there any health risks hiking in the rainforest? (Ex: bites from disease carrying bugs, etc.)
2. Is it worthwhile to just drive through the forest, or is it best to hike it?
3. How are the temperatures? Would it be unbearable to wear pants?
We enjoy hiking in the mountains in Montana, Wyoming and even in Italy. So I am not concerned about the physical strength needed to hike. I am more concerned about the "tropical conditions" and any risks there may be.
