Fajardo Bio Bay tour operator advice

I'm looking to rent a car for a day trip that would include the Bio Bay at night with a stop to hike for a few hours at El Yunque along the way. Most on the forum suggest reserving a kayaking trip. For that, I'd need to know if they all follow the same itinerary or if there are choices and why I might pick one? Also, if I'm going to call in advance, could someone suggest some reliable tour operators? Finally, any favorite hikes in El Yunque (in the 3 hour range for 40-somethings who are in reasonable shape). Thank you much.

We are in our 60's, in good shape and preferred the bargain (was $11 da/$22 nite 2 years ago) Las Cabezas tour to the electric boat or kayak. In the Cabezas tour you are escorted by a credentialed professional on a board walk over a section of the bio lagoon where you can stimulate the glow, and go to a dark lab that compares organisms. On the "electric?" boat we had, bio bay narration was about star constellations. Our friends that did the kayak tour got knocked off into the water and lost a cell phone. Chaos from so many kayaks thru a narrow access area, darkness, and because some tourists that had never been on a kayak. But if you make allowances and don't take anything valuable, getting a dunking in glowing water can be part of the fun, since you can't swim there. Everyone in the area was very attentive to their clients as far as we heard.

We did La Mina Falls early, before the tourist buses and it was spectacular, can probably be done in 3 hours. There is some grade to the paths, going down seemed harder than climbing to us.

Hope this helps.

I'm looking into bio bay tours myself for my trip in December. This link provides valuable information: puertoricodaytrips.com/laguna-grande-fajardo…

As far as hiking trails, The Big Tree trail is my favorite. It's only a 30-minutes walk each way and it leads to beautiful La Mina falls.

I am doing the electric boat tour on my trip . We are scheduled on Sept.25th. I will write a trip report. Maybe you will consider it over the kyack tour.

Much appreciate the link.

If anyone has an operator to recommend, that would be good. I'll report back in any case.

Unfortunately, I see that my trip will be around the time of the full moon - nothing I can do about that but hope it will work out.

I did the Kayak tour with Yokahu. Really nice and doable. It was $40 pp at night. For me it was worth every peny of it.

Paddling is done at an easy pace and they make necesary warnings while passsing through the canals.

Plus, if there were any other tour operators, Yokahu tours set a paddling pace to leave some distance between other tours. As mentioned in a post above it can get cramped if distance is not kept, just like driving a car.

They all have the same intinerary and do it well you shouldn't pay more then $47 and must book as far in advance as you can as its very popular.
