Hotel/Company Recommendations + Taxi Info

Heya,

So on May 24, 2014 (Sunday) my mother (57) and I (29) are going on a South Caribbean Cruise. The cruise' port is Pan American Pier, Isla Grande, Santurce, Puerto Rico.

We will arrive in San Juan Airport and hoping to stay 2 or 3 days prior to our cruise in San Juan to enjoy the city a big

We have some questions

1- We went to enjoy Old and New San Juan (Island Tour), The Bio Bay + Rain Forest, Possibly Caves, Beaches ETC. I was wondering if you could recommend companies that do combo day tours.

For example: Kayaking Puerto Rico does a full day combo tour of the Rain Forest + Bio Bay (at night). That is 1 day for us.

2- Can you recommend a nice clean, not-so-expensive hotels with breakfast included? Possibly somewhere in close-ish proximity to the cruise pier, our activities, airport etc? What are your thoughts on these?

3- How much do cabs cost in general?

Any other advice is appreciated!

Thanks

Hotels here do not include breakfast. Though check the Holiday Inn Express, as they sometimes include breakfast in the US.

The areas of OSJ, Condado and Isla Verde are close to the pier and airport. Choose a hotel based on budget and preferences (quick access to beach, restaurants, etc).

Taxi fares are fixed by zone. On arrival, get a list of prices at the taxi line. Most expensive is airport to OSJ, at $19. There is a $2 gas surcharge +$1 per bag.

The ESJ Towers in Isla Verde supplies breakfast if you reserve through the Hotel Website. I also believe That Embassy Suites will do the same, but is not on the beach. Puerto Rico is not a small island It's a half day drive from one end to the other. Plan you tours accordingly.. Think about renting a car, it is the main means of transportation outside of San Juan.

Hotel Milano in OSJ is fairly cheap and includes breakfast.

Heya,

Thanks for the reply - silly question but how about Ciqala Luxury Suites? How's the location of that place? It says it provides breakfast and currently there is 20% of room prices making the prices reasonable...

Hi neighbor, Not familiar with Ciquala, but the area does not exite me. We have cruised the last 11 years out of PR. The last 4 we used Priceline and bid for a Resort in the San Juan- Carolina area. We got the Marriott Stellaris twice and Caribe Hilton twice. Other have gotten the Intercontinental and Conrad. Do not get hung up on closeness to Pan Am pier (which is in a very nice industial area). Any San Juan area is OK for the Cruise including Isle-Verde (Carolina) by SJU. Enjoy.

Hi,

With the surcharges & charges for luggage, do you still add in a tip for the taxi driver?

We stayed at the Embassy Suites in the isla verde area. It does include breakfast plus a 2 hour manager's reception every night with free drinks and snacks. While it's not on the beach it's less than a 5 min walk. There's a guy there to give you towels, chairs and an umbrella. If you take a cab from there to OSJ it's $20. We just took the public bus which I think was 75 cents per person. It takes a lot longer than a cab though.
