Best areas to stay in San Juan

Hi All,

I will be heading to San Juan in March with some friends. We are looking for a good balance of beach time and night life. What are the best areas to stay in San Juan? We are hoping to limit cab rides and walk to both restaurants/bars at night and the beach during the day.

Any suggestions of good places to stay for 8-10 people for 4 days, 3 nights, max of $2,500 for the entire time is also appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Hi Melissa, I think El Condado is what you are looking for. Some people disparage the beach because the surf is rough, but its very nice otherwise. Waterfront hotels are the Marriot Stellaris, La Concha, Hilton Condado Plaza and the Radisson. There are also apartments available under San Juan Vacation Rentals. Isla Verde also has numerous beachfront hotels and a nicer beach. There are restaurants in the area, but it is a little less walkable than El Condado. You can easily minimize taxi rides by taking the public bus for $.75

The Isla Verde area has the best beach everyone says. We stayed at the Embassy Suites there. Short 5 min walk to the beach. Restaurants and bars within walking distance. Not too expensive. Breakfast included as well as a 2 hour manager's reception every night with free drinks and snacks.

Isla Verde is for me the best area to stay in San Juan. It has the best beach, numerous beachfront bars, beachfront restaurants, 24/7 supermarket and 24/7 drugstores and great nightlife. All within walking distance if you stay in Isla Verde Ave along the hotel area. A group your size may consider renting a condo. The best buildings in the area are Marbella del Caribe (west tower), Coral Beach and ESJ Tower. They all have great beachfront pools, 24/7 security and are in the best location as everything is safely walkable day and night. Condado is 10 minute cab drive away if you wish to visit.

Totally agree with the isla verde area. Have never stayed there but hung out at the intercontinental for a few hours between flights. The pool area was nice and the beach is much better than I expected. Condado is too crowded I wanted to check out the Hilton - location wise it looks well positioned.
