Reservations needed for early dinners and rainforest w/baby?

Hi all,

we'll be traveling to San Juan for the first time. We're staying at the Intercontinental with our 6 month old baby March 1-5.

Couple of questions:

if we want to go out to dinner with the baby early in San Juan or Old San Juan do we always need reservations and are these places generally OK with (very well behaved) infants. early = @6pm dinner.

also if anyone cares to give recommendations on where to dine. we are NYC foodies, but like down and dirty local/authentic as much as fine dining...a mix of both might be nice.

would one ever drive to a restaurant and park the car or are taxi's best (or the local bus) in these scenarios?

lastly, anyone think rainforest with a 6 month old is a bad idea? i'm thinking might not be best because of bugs - mosquito's etc...thoughts?

thanks in advance!

We just came back from Puerto Rico and had no problem finding places to eat without reservations. We traveled with a 3 year old and a 2 month old and every where we went the staff was always accommodating. Traveling to El Yunque was no problem but I highly recommend bring a baby carrier and wearing sneakers or water shoes. There didn't seem to be any bugs but I came home with about five bites so wear repellent. We took ponchos and an umbrella but didn't need it. It is also much cooler there so dress the baby in pants and a light jacket or long sleeved shirt.

We took cabs everywhere and carried the car seat using the stroller attachment. However we rented a car to go to El Yunque.

Reservations are not necessary in PR unless it's a large group. PR is a family friendly destination. Kids are welcome everywhere.

Metropol is Isla Verde is fantastic. Great authentic PRican/Cuban dishes.

A car is not necessary in San Juan. Taxi service is the way to go. But you will need a car to go anywhere outside San Juan.

March is a cooler month. You should be fine in the rainforest. Make sure you protect yourselves with bug repellent. A stroller is your best bet as the trails are no less than 20 minutes long.

We did El Yunque National Forest yesterday and it was great! Carrying an infant will limit you to the close in items but you can drive through the park and see the several climate and flora zones including some waterfalls. Can't say the Visitor Center was worth it, though we enjoyed one of the interpretive nature walks that start at the "Colorado" stop.
