Flight connecting time at San Juan

I am looking at an AA flight from Tortola - San juan - JFK- London

The connecting time between landing in San Juan and departing to JFK is just 1 hour 40 minutes.

Is this enough time? Can i check my bags straight through from Tortola to JFK or London in which case, it could be done. If I have to collect my bags at San Juan and check them in again for the JFK flight then might be a problem,

I am assuming that as these flights have been offered, that they are achievable, but just need some advise before I book.

You can check your bags all the way through, but you need to clear customs in SJU when coming from Tortola.

A layover of an hour and a half at JFK should be sufficient, but if your SJU flight is delayed you could miss your flight. Personally I like a bit more cushion when going transatlantic. Luckily there are plenty of JFK-LHR flights, so if you miss your connection they will accomodate you on the next flight.

thanks for this, i have a 4 hour layover in JFK, it is at San Juan that i have the 1 hour 40 layover - i am flying in from Tortola in the British Virgin Islands to San Juan. Will that still be ok?

Sorry, got that wrong. I will defer to people that have been through customs in SJU, as I haven't.
