Proper foot gear for visit to rainforest in El Yunque

My wife and I are middle aged and in fairly good physical shape.

So far we are planning to bring raincoats and rain hats.

Not sure about footwear??

My wife has lightweight LL Bean low cut trail hikers..

I have mid height EMS hiking boots.

What do most people find most useful in this setting?

Any other advice for other stuff to wear will be appreciated.

Many thanks

Any kind of boots are good. Personally I love playing in the streams so I do all my hiking wearing keens, but any good shoe you are willing to get wet will work. Make sure they have closed toes though. The hiking in el yunque for the most part is not to hard core.

The trails are paved for the most part, but they can be slippery. Most people use sneakers.

Anything with a hard sole with traction will work. Hiking shoes are good for the harder trails (Like EL Toro peak), after 8 miles of hiking on rocks, ankle support would be nice. But most people don't do the hard trails.

Most of the trails are paved and I have seen people doing them in flip flops (not recommended). Trails can get slippery. Point is something light with traction that you don't mind getting wet will be better than a heavy boot unless you are, as Flowerfarm says, going out after the most challenging trails.

Also a light plastic poncho is more than enough for rain gear.
