We returned last night from a lovely week in vieques. The beaches are as beautiful as they say. The pace on the island is very laidback
a truly great escape from the typically hectic pace of a family of five. We had heard great things about Casa Alta Vista and stayed there also because many of the other hotels do not allow children under the age of fifteen. We have a 15,12 and 7. Casa Alta Vista offered a family room type of arrangement. two rooms two baths and sleeping for 7. Rooms 4 and 5 are very basic but clean. No dressers or closets was our chief complaint so suitcases spent a week on the floor and we had to keep everything in them. Rooms 6,7,9 and 12 appear to be the nicest. The roof top deck was great. The staff are great and very helpful. Did laundry for us and when we arrived at the ferry dock at the end of our stay, we found that our 7 year old's "blankie" was no where to be found. I called the hotel and sure enough it was in the office where we had been waiting for our cab. Mark the owner, dropped everything and personally escorted blankie to the ferry, a round trip of about 40 minutes. What service! Also, reports of noise are grossly exaggerated. We were never awakened by roosters or dogs, just rain, and a very loud family staying above us with some domestic issues, which Mark took care of right away.
Casa Alta vista was a great location, we were able to walk to town for breakfast at Tradewinds every day and usually to Bananas for dinner. Bananas is very much underrated. The food and the service was great. Tradewinds for dinner was good also. Chef came out to talk to us about my husband's gluten allergy and was very accomodating. Service there was great and you can't beat the views.
Island Car rental was not the best for service and the car was a mess and I am not sure how safe it was.
Sunbay beach was beautiful but very busy on Sunday, our 7 year old did get to play with some local kids though which was great.
Bio Bay was awesome! We went with a very small group (8 people)in kayaks which I think is better than a large group or the pontoon boat based on observing their experiences.
Overall a wonderful, VERY relaxing stay on Vieques.
