Looking for accomodations on south side-on the beach with...

We are a group of 12 looking for accomodations on the south side of the island that is on the beach. We would need 3-4 separate units with a kitchen in each. Each would need to have 2 -3 bedrooms. We like 'At the Waves' on the north side, but the beach there doesn't look as pretty as the south side beaches. Also, does anyone know if there is good snorkeling right off the beach 'At the Waves'? I've read conflicting reports on the beach--some say a swimming beach, some say just a beach for walking. Any info. you have would be great!

Hi lynnie. We are always happy to hear that our "down Island" neighbors wish to visit us.

While Vieques is physically larger than your Island, it has no where near the accommodations available on Anguilla. What you are looking for on the south side of Vieques in terms of accommodations simply does not exist.

At The Waves is well run and maintained and may well be the most suitable for your group. Defining attributes to any beach is very subjective and dependent upon the time of year you visit, as you know. Snorkeling from the beach there can be good when conditions are right..

No matter where you land here, you will be welcomed.

We stayed at "At the Waves" last January. The sea was rough for the first part of our trip, but by the end of our two weeks we were able to snorkel from that beach. It was the best snokeling we have done on the island. The beach is a decent beach for walking, but I wouldn't call it a swimming beach everyday, or ever for someone that is not a fairly strong swimmer. The current seemed to want to carry you to Culebra.

I know this isn't on the beach, but have you considered renting a couple of small houses in Esperanza? It would be walking distance to a couple of the southside beaches and the restaurants/bars on the Malecon.

Hi...thanks so much or replying....we have not considered renting a couple of small houses...but will definitely look in to that! We've come across Villa Nyita Linda, also on the north side. From different reviews and photos, it seems that Villa Nyita Linda may be on a slightly bigger/wider beach than At the Waves. We enjoy going off to different beaches, but with a group of 12 -13, sometimes we have to wait for the rest of the group to get ready to leave, and we'd like to be able to sit at the beach and possibly even snorkel there a bit. It's nice to hear that you were able to snorkel At the Waves. Does anyone know the area well enough to confirm that this beach area at Villa Nyita Linda may be more of what we are looking for than At the Waves?

The only Areas that have water very close are Bravos (at the waves and many other houses) and Monte Santo Playa (Nyita Linda, the DACHA CASA LADERA)The beach at Monte Santo Playa is pretty and very underutilized.

This is just not like many other islands, Most of the beaches are on Fish and Wildlife reserve or are state park.

There are very few homes actually on the beach (There are some expensive and large rental homes at Martineau) and fewer on a nice beach. Bravos is more water front than beach with a few spots that provide some possibility for swimming.

Only one I can think of is Bravos by the sea ( where I am staying at in a month)

There is no beach right at Bravos by the Sea. There is a decent but not spectacular beach a few hundred yards down the road. I have stayed at Bravos by the Sea twice, love it, it has spectacular views and is waterfront, but no beach access.

Thanks again for your input! Looks like we will be staying on the north side, trying to decide between At the Waves and Nyita Linda. Sounds like we'd have a little more beach area at Nyita Linda?! Any other input on this would be appreciated!
