drinking water

Is the tap water in Vieques (and Puerto Rico in general) safe for us American visitors to drink, or do you have to only drink bottled water like you do in Mexico?

Tap water in Puerto Rico must follow the same standards as tap water in the USA. So, you shouldn't worry about drinking it, you will be fine.

Of course, if you tend to have a sensitive stomach, drink bottled water... because in the long run, it is safe to drink but just as there may be some bacteria native to Florida which would make someone from California sick, the same could apply for someone visiting Puerto Rico.

I recall hearing that the water comes piped from Puerto Rico. We drank the water in a number of the restaurants and thought it tasted just fine!

Yes, the water at Vieques and Culebra is from the big island, remember, these islands are part of Puerto Rico.

Being in the east, it probably comes from where we get the water on the eastern towns, El Yunque.

We figured, why drink bottled water when the ice that was in our drinks was most likely not from bottled water, and we were fine. Tasted same as or better than the water in MN.
