flight question

We arrive at 1:05 pm at SJU, on AA. Looks like there's a 2:45pm flight on VAL from SJU to VQS and also a VAL flight from Isla Grande to VQS at 2:45 pm -- the latter being around half the price. Which should we take? Is that connection time OK if we take the Isla Grande option? Is there a better alternative? Thanks!

You might make it if everything goes like clockwork and you only travel with carry on BUT if you don't you may be up the creek as the planes are small and the subsequent flights might be full (there is also a change fee now). Check out Seaborne they have several flights from SIG to Vieques also dependsing on the season. If it is all about saving money and there are a least two of you, you can get a cab at SJU and for about $80 go over to Ceiba (about an hour away) and catch a 10 minute VAL flight (*about $25) to Vieques. Ferry service at the moment is VERY unreliable and best to avoid at this time.

BTW there will not be Taxis waiting at Ceiba if you choose to do this in reverse, you need to make advance plans.

Has this changed? In early Feb we had no problems getting a taxi at Ceiba and we did not set this up in advance.

Thanks for the info. Why is the ferry unreliable? Is it full? Or do they just cancel them or not adhere to the schedule?

Check out this months Vieques Events at www.viequesevents.net.

Most of the boats are broken and out of service.

Rchandler there are Publicos at Ceiba that can take you to Fajardo and maybe you were lucky and found one that would take you to SJU. They are not required by law to take you to SJU like the ones at SJU are required to take you where ever you need to go. I would not count on it and you could lose several hours if you have not arranged for Julian or one of the other transportation services to meet you at Ceiba. This has been discussed often on the forum.

WG - maybe I got confused - you are right about travelling between SJU and Fajardo/Ceiba, pre-arranging transportation is imperative.

I feel like we took a taxi (not publico) from Ceiba somewhere - but just can't remember where/why...need another vaca to Vieques to cure this!

Anyway, I concur to travel to San Juan from Fajardo/Ceiba set that up in advance...
