help with vieques trip

i basically act as my family's travel planner

our family of 4 in the middle of april is taking a plane to san juan and staying there for 2 full days then going to vieques for 4 days

i am worried that there will not be enough to do in vieques and if there is many things to do is 4 days to much or to little- and what things are there to do

-also should you reserve rental cars in advance and what is the reliability of the ferry from fajardo to vieques

-ps is there any places to go parasailing in vieques or jetskiing as our family is interested in trying it

First thing you do is see if you can get a rental car, there may be none available at this point. Do you have a place to stay yet? All of this needs to be done well in advance. Vieques has limited services. I do know that jet skies are rented in Esperanza. I don't know if there's any parasailing or not.

Given the questions your asking I get the impression your thinking Vieques is a lot like many of the other, more developed Caribbean islands. It is not.

My wife and I just got back recently from two weeks on Vieques, our third trip in 12 months, so there's plenty to do. A lot depends on how your geared and what your expectations are. I tell our friends that the "carpet-baggers" have not ruined Vieques yet. If that makes any sense to you.

We like privacy and eshew the typical resort crowd. IMO Vieques offers this. Once again it depends on how your geared. There isn't a lot of action, no malls, no theatre, no casinos, no golf courses and even sometimes no gas on the island.

A short list of activities might go like this:

Bio-bay tour

The eastern beaches...Caracas, Playa Chiva, Secret, Orchid

Sea glass beach on the Atlantic side

Puenta Arena on the western side

Hiking off of Garcia

Snorkeling tour with one of the outfits

If you want to see beautiful beaches in their natural state then Vieques is the place to go. You will have to share them with horses and iquanas though. There are a lot of horses on Vieques and there're everywhere, in the streets, roaming all over. There's also a lot of chickens and the roosters will crow all night long. There's also a of dogs that can and do bark all night.

Now with all that said...we absolutely love the island. I've wrote a lot about our trips on our blog. Maybe it might help you some:
