Culebra or Vieques for a snorkeling vacation?

Which of the two islands has the best snorkeling for a 10-day vacation? We want to be able to stay on one beach if possible, and have a variety of sea life and excellent snorkeling without having to take a boat.

Thank-you!

Have snorkeled and dove both and we like Culebra much better for both. You will want to drive to several different beaches though to snorkel. Melones, Soldado, Carlos Rosario, Tamarindo is excellent snorkeling with turtles.

Culebra has a couple of beach access spots that are really fantastic and the rest are pretty good. Vieques has a bunch of decent and fun spots. none as good as Culebras best, but alot of variety. Vieques has many options for other things as well. including the bio bay.

you should split your trip and go to both places.

If you are just looking to wake up everyday and snorkel from shore- Culebra.

Flamenco has snorkeling on both ends, hike to Carlos Rosario and Tamarindo Grande, drive to Tamarindo beach to see the turtles, we loved Melones (and great sunsets too) and Punta Soldado was ok.

But with the exception of Flamenco, sand-wise, Culebra's snorkel beaches aren't good.

Personally I would get bored for 10 days, but it would be relaxing for some people I guess!

We go to Culebra by boat to dive and snorkel, but the beaches where the snorkling is great are not usually the beaches where the beaches are great or if they are nice they are hard to get to without a boat.

I also do not know what you mean by "stay on one beach", do you mean for 10 days? Yikes visit both islands. Culebra might have the edge on snorkeling but it couldn't hold my attention otherwise for ten days.
