food for first night

We will be flying in on a Sunday and our house manager has offered to pick up some items to get us started. Not knowing what to expect at the local store, what would be a good meal for us to cook the first night.Any specific brands or type of food. Something simple and we do have a grill.

Thanks

Chicken is almost always availble in some form, so I suggest chicken on the grill. Sometimes fresh chicken pieces or whole chicken and often the individual frozen boneless, skinless breasts. Rice and pasta are available and easy to fix side dishes - maybe some type of canned veggies like artichoke hearts, olives to mix in. Some other things to ask for would be some type of lettuce, cucumbers, onions, oil, vinegar, eggs, bread or muffins, butter, cheese, crackers and, of course Rum and limes.

Are you breakfast eaters? We would also suggest some first morning basics- coffee, milk, fruit, whatever you like to have in the AM.

The only thing we find to much different from home, is the selection of bread, including rolls and such. If you plan for your host to some up pick up, keep in mind the selection is less than in the states. We have found it usually consists of your standard white and wheat sandwich breads. And standard/smaller hamburger and hot dog rolls. Maybe we always catch it on an off day, but "nicer" breads and rolls common in the states, or even main land Puerto Rico, were not found.

But, I would agree with chicken on the grill, can almost always get chicken at the store. As well as the AM bascis.

Enjoy!
