Exchange currency

We are going to St Barths soon. Do we exchange USD in Euros or should we use the ATM machine there? Thank you!

I assume you are asking about getting Euros at your bank or perhaps the airport before you leave Boston. If so, than wait until you get on-island and use an ATM from one of the local banks to withdraw the cash (Euros) you think you'll need. You'll get a much better exchange rate.

Pick up your euros from an ATM once you get there.

You can also go to the supermarket directly across from the airport and just make a small purchase and pay with large US, they will give you change in euros. Quick way to get a few euros in your pocket if you aren't too hung up on the exchange rate (and it's actually pretty good there) or need a large amount of money all at once. This is what we do now, just about every bar, resto, shop on the island takes credit cards. Just enough for a few happy hours or lunch at Le Select, which does not. B

There are two cash points opposite the airport's shopping centre, very easy to get Euros. (BFC and BRED)

Tell your bank you are going abroad so that your card is not blocked and find out what your bank charges are.

Just chiming in to agree with all the advice above...

1. Get Euros at the many ATM machines around the island

2. Use credit cards, especially if you have one that doesn't charge a conversion fee like Capital One

3. Make sure you notify your bank and credit cards you will be travelling.

Have a great trip!
