Visit to St. Barth's

My wife and I plan to visit St. Barth's next June and were wondering if that would be a not so good time to visit. We have visited St. Maarten and Anguilla on several occasions usually between March and August and have always enjoyed ourselves, especially in St. Maarten. Anguilla is quiet but has great beaches, probably the best in the Caribbean. We have thought of visiting St. Barth's for one day during one of our visits to St. Maarten but we have now opted for a longer visit, probably one week. I would appreciate any thoughts on this as well as any info relative to where to stay, where to dine as well as any other information on St. Barth's. We will be purchasing a travel book on the island, but first hand information from those of who have visited St. Barth's would be very useful.

Your question is VERY broad. I would suggest reading through the forum and then follow up with some specific questions. July is low season, but enough will be open to keep a first time visitor occupied for a week.

We discovered St. Barth on our first and only trip to St Martin (French side) and have been going there ever since. We love the island and are happy to help you with specifics, once you determine your questions/

June is a good time to visit St Barths. The beaches at Colombier, Gouverneur, Saline and St Jean are comparable ( and arguably better depending on your preferences ) with those on Anguilla

St Barths is a small island so nearly everything will only be a maximum 20 minutes drive away ( and a hire car is strongly recommended ).

Some people prefer to stay in a Villa, others to stay in a hotel. Some prefer St Jean, others prefer Gustavia.

As mamiesgirl points out, your questions are too general to give a more helpful answer !

June is as good as any month to visit St Barth's and you are wise to stay for a week. The 15 minute flight from St Maartin can be as costly as the flight from NY. If you fly Winnair, regardless of what time your flight is, they will put you on the next open flight to St Barth's from St. Maartin.

Rates are drastically reduced for hotels and villas in June. There really isn't a bad location in which to stay- you're bound to have a great view and everywhere is very safe. The island is mostly quiet. Right now I'm hearing birds, goats and chickens, mixed in with the ever present sound of houses under construction. Food is expensive, but if you like to cook the U Marche grocery stores are well stocked. A rental car is essential. Bring mosquito repellent.

Thanks for all the input provided. After reading many other posts on this forum, we have a good idea relative to how to get the most of our visit there. The month of June would be as good as any month to visit. We are not too surprised of the cost to spend time on that island, even during the off season. Again, thanks for all the advice.
