Recommendations for expecting parents?

Hi All,

My wife and I's first trip to St Lucia (of course, influenced by the TV show The Bachelor :P ) and we were wondering if anyone had any recommendations for a pregnant woman and her husband :) My wife will be about 5 months pregnant at the time and we just wanted to getaway somewhere hot, as the last non-baby trip for a while, and relax and enjoy the sun. We definitely want to see the Pitons or maybe be close by it, so any recommendations?

We have been considering Sandals Grande, Almond Bay, Coconut Bay i think. Looking for all-inclusive and while she relaxes, i may sneak off to do some watersports, golf, fitness...

Looking mid-range place and unfortunately we cant afford Jade Mountain :)

Thanks in advance.

Many of the resorts, due to their location require a lot of walking up and down hills, which is probably not what your wife wants to do when she's that far along. I know that Coconut Bay is on a flat piece of land. Almond Morgan Bay, I believe, is also fairly flat. Coconut Bay is quite a bit closer to Soufriere and the Pitons than Almond Morgan Bay, however you can cruise down the coast to Soufriere from AMB - this is not available at Coconut Bay. If you're staying at Coconut Bay golf may not be a viable option as the only public course I'm aware of, is at the north end of the island in Gros Islet. With your stay at AMB they include 3 free rounds of golf, but you have to pay for a mandatory cart rental. Watersports are more plentiful at AMB, so I think it would probably be the better choice for you, but I don't the lay of the land. Perhaps someone else knows more about AMB and other possible choices can chime in on this.

Hi,

gdbear is right about being aware of resorts on hillsides and those on the flat/beach.

AMB is a bit of a mixture reasonably flat but some rooms are up the slope or up the stairs so be specific if you book there

Actually I think Sandals Regency is probably your best bet - they offer shuttle services throughout the grounds and to their other resorts. Included in the price is golf on their 9-hole course, SCUBA diving and many other activities. If you decide on Sandals I suggest you book through a certified Sandals Specialist.

Sandals Halcyon is very flat and not a large property so there isn't extreme walking to be done to get to various places on property. Get a ground floor room so she doesn't need to walk up stairs in the heat. She would probably like that. Sandals Grande does have some stairs. If you stay at Halcyon you are halfway (15 minute drive) between the Grande and the Regency (where their golf course is located).

Thanks everyone for their responses. Looks like we will look into Sandals Regency and Grande in further detail. And great point about resorts/hotels on hilly areas, that wouldnt be too comfortable for her. I guess since the Sandals resorts are a bit away from the Pitons, you think a one-day trip to them would be sufficient?

I just saw your recent post where you're looking towards Sandals, but I 'd like to chime in if that's okay :-) and suggest Windjammer.

Sure, most of the villas are loacted up along a hillside, BUT the rooms I suggest are the brand new Hibiscus Suites - they are located down by the gardens and close to the resort restaurants/facilities. Each hibiscus also has a full kitchen & washer/dryer.

From what I hear people staying in the Hibiscus can just walk down to the beach & restaurants. I've never been 5 months pregnant, but I'm sure some physical movement for her might be ok, especially if its just light walk to main area of the resort.

I suggested this resort b/c you mentioned activities for you and WJ offers free activities on their property; water sports, canooing, etc. They also offer daily resort credit (sun-dollars) you can apply towards meals & outside tours.

and your wife can feel comfortable in the new Hibiscus Suite (which btw each of these suites are furnished w/ its own jacizzi).

This is a AI optional resort and IMO the price & value for what you get is one of the best on St Lucia. For our dates WJ offered better rates than the Sandals.

whichever you decide, enjoy your vacay & congrats on the new edition to your family. ;-)

A day should be enough to see the main attractions in Soufriere - the Pitons, Sulphur Springs, Diamond Estate Waterfall & Botannical Gardens and Toraille Waterfall. I suggest a day sail down the west coast or a land & sea tour to Soufriere.

If you decide to strike out on your own be sure to visit Dasheene Restaurant for an amazing view of the Pitons and Piton Bay. It is about an hour's drive, more or less, to Soufriere from Sandals Grande or Regency. If you are a confident driver, driving in St Lucia can be fun as it is very different from driving in Ontario.

Also look at Cotton Bay. It is flat, next to the beach, has a fitness centre, and is also next to the only 18 hole golf course in St Lucia. They also have an AI option.
