Confused about St Lucia

OK so I am not sure what part of St Lucia to stay in- can someone give me the lay of the land? We are planning a trip and looking at St Lucia as our destination.

Three basic tourist areas ----

1. Rodney Bay/Cap Estat/ Gros Islet ---- this is in the north of the island; long expanses of beach; lots of hotels, restaurants, malls and shops, night clubs. Lots of action!

2. Souffriere area --in the southern end of the island; nature unbound. Hiking, waterfalls, mountains, rain forest. Snorkeling and diving. Most hotels are on the water or in the hills with great views. Rental homes on hillsides. For most locations you need a car to get around. Fewer but some great choices in restaurants etc.

3. Marigot Bay --- located about mid way on the island on the Caribbean Sea side. protected harbor with boats coming and going. Hilly. Next to the Pitons, most photographed spot on SL. Sailing, boating, some snorkeling, small beach, about 8 restaurants/bars to choose from. If staying on the north side or down near the marina on the south side, you don't need a car.
