Four options -- local bus, rental car, land taxi, water taxi. Local bus is naturally cheapest -- it's about a 15 minute walk from the bay to the bus stop. Rental car -- you can rent for just a day if you wish. There are numerous water taxis in the bay that can take you north -- and then land taxis. The last two will run between US$120- 160 -- barter!
Depending on time of day and traffic, it will take between 40 and 50 minutes to that area -- tho the fast drivers out there will differ with me!!
Thanks for the post searose.
Where to catch the local bus and what busline will I be looking for from Marigot bay.
If only land taxi hired from Marigot bay to Reduit beach, how much does it cost?
Not planning on renting a car and the water taxi costs are a bit prohibitive. Do you know if the water taxi drivers are known to barter (agree to a lower price) if more people are on the same trip?
Many will barter - -depending on the season you are going. Land taxi cost would be lower -- about US120 RT. But more people (more than 3,4 usually, and the price is prorated so maybe a bit less, pp.
Local buses in StLucia are like large vans -- about 12 passengers. You get to meet many Lucians this way. To get to Rodney Bay area you'd change in Castries. It's not a "busline" but these vans have license plates with an "M". To catch the bus you walk up the hill to the village and down to a junction -- often for a few extra dollars, they will drive you to the bay on return.
Thanks for the great info. We will be on island from April 23-April 30. Will the local bus take us from Marigot Bay (with change in Castries) all the way to Pigeon Point (Vigie Lighthouse)?
Also, what time do the local buses stop running from Rodney Bay to Marigot Bay?
We walked all over that area last week. In fact, we walked from south Castries to Choc Point, and also from Pigeon Island to Rodney Bay. Alternatively, the public transit vans (they have M licence plates) are frequent and cheap. We used this option a number of times as well.
Pigeon Point is not that near Vigie lighthouse, FYI. Vigie lighthouse is near the Vigie airport.
What time do the local buses stop running from Rodney Bay to Marigot Bay?
I am not sure exactly how late they run -- I do know you can get them till midnight on most nights as I know a guy in Marigot who takes one home from work late. After midnight I would think it would be iffy at best .....
We plan to take the local bus from Marigot Bay to Castries to visit the Vigie Lighthouse. Will the local bus take us close to it / what bus stop /location / street name? Can we walk the rest of the way - Or will we need a taxi?
You might switch to a bus that could drop you near Vigie airport??? Not sure. But if you walk it from Castries center -- it would be a long walk. Doable but a long walk of perhaps 30 to 45 minutes. If you could cut through the airport runway, it would be shorter but that's not a good idea ! LOL. A taxi would probably not cost that much and be a much better option.
