Helicopter transfer

We are planning to take a helicopter transfer from the airport to the Sandals Halcyon. My question is should we just book with St. Lucia helicopter tours directly or book through Sandals? Booking through Sandals is more expensive but from some reviews booking direct is a bit of a headache. And is the transportion better to the resort once you land if you book through Sandals??

Thanks in advance!!!

Let's try to tackle this one! Yes, it is less expensive overall if you book the helicopter yourself. Not sure where you heard about it being a headache, lots of people book it online with no problem. It might take a day or 2 (or 3!) to hear back from them, but they do bookings just fine.

For transfers, you can arrange it through Sandals to pick you up at the northern airport - either tell themyou are arriving there or tell them you are arriving via the helicopter and they can arrange the van to pick you up; have read of people who booked their own transport from airport to resort and had Sandals re-imburse that - can't comment on that one, but I would definitely get that in writing from them ahead of time if you try to go that route! Or you can simply hire a taxi or driver to take you over to the resort - it is about $20-$25US by taxi and about a 15-20 minute cab ride. The transport provided by Sandals is their regular vans - unless you pay for their private transfer, and for less than 20minutes, that seems a bit much! Taxi will be sedan or van and equally or more comfortable as it will be just you guys.

I would personally recommend booking it yourself and coordinating with Sandals to pick you up at the northern airport. The only real benefit, as I see it, of booking through Sandals is they will coordinate your travel from the northern airport to the resort - is it worth the extra $$, only you can decide that. Keep in mind - the helicopters only fly during daylight hours, so may not be an option depending on which flight from Canada you are on!

Hope that helps. Enjoy your visit.

We have just got back today and did the heli transfer back to the airport as we have done before. We get a cab on the way to the hotel, thsi time the Rendezvous as its a nice way to see the island. We booked the heli at the hotel through our St Lucia Rep for BA about 5 days before departure. She had to wait to confirm as they do need 4 people to fly and at the time we were the only people who booked, but we were with BA and she did say it is more difficult on the days of the Virgin flights to get the return. However later that day it was confirmed and we ended up with 6 on our flight which was fine. We got the scenic route which was 15mins and only 10 US more than the 10min flight. Just need to be aware that you do not take your luggage and so it may take some time to arrive/it has to be picked up early on the return. Would thouroughly recomment it though. Some great photos!

I believe the "headache" , comes into play with unconfirmed bookings and when folks expect a Sandals ~included~ transfer to be there ready and waiting at the Northern airport, regardless of how they booked...

Sandals policy for their ~included~ transfer to resort is generally limited to your overseas airline flight arrival airport.

Of course there will always be exceptions to this rule, dependent on a variety of factors. Sandals seems as though they are not very consistent on this issue... hit or miss so to speak.

If you book the St.Lucia Helicopter Shuttle at a premium price thru Sandals/Island routes-online-tour operator-travel agent, it does then include your transfer to the resort, though...best to confirm with the ~resort~ that your booking has gone thru to all parties and confirm your arrival/pick up time at the northern airport.

Booking direct with St. Lucia Helicopters, is not a problem, when you arrive at the Northern airport, you then pay to take an available taxi to the resort.
