Small, beach front, walking distance to bars and restaurants

I'm looking for a small beach front hotel/B&B within walking distance of local bars and restuarants.

It must be clean and well maintained. A/c would be ideal but not a deal breaker.

I'm not into big all inclusive resorts but prefer the smaller place where you aren't another face in the crowd.

I like to get out and experience the real St Lucia not just mix with a lot of other tourists.

Does such a place exist in St Lucia?

Recommendations please.

Hi,

None of the above are beach front per your questn.

Bay Gardens Beach Resort is. It is 80 rooms so fairly small, nice locally owned hotel. The ones listed above are 2/10 mins walk from the beach. If you stay at the Bay Gardens Hotel or Inn you can use the facilities, beach chairs etc of its Sister hotel the BGBR and there is also a free hourly shuttle bus (or 15 min walk).

Mirage Beach Hotel in Laborie. Not in a tourist area at all but beachfront and extremely small and walking distance to all things local. You certainly won't be a tourist there and will experience the real St. Lucia. You could also have a look at Hummingbird Beach Resort.

Thanks Okey. I'd looked at those but as BigSteve points out they're not beach front.

I'm thinking a dozen steps from accomodation to the sea! :)

Thanks BigSteve.

BGBR is on my list of possibles but slighlty on the large side.

BGI looked more my size but not being beach front was a concern.

The sharing with BGBR helps but I do like that early morning dip in the sea before breakfast! :-)

Thanks nevera and gdbear

Those seem better for location and size although reading the reviews service seems to be a bit hit and miss particularly for Still Beach House.

Soufriere does look more locals than tourists.

I'm doing some more research into the area to get a feel for what's available in Laborie and Soufriere as regards choices of places to eat and drink.

For info on Laborie, check out www.ilovelaborie.com

For more info on Soufriere, check out www.soufrierefoundation.org

If you truly want a locals only experience, then Laborie is the place to visit. There are no hotels or resorts, only local restaurants, etc. Mirage is lovely, right on the beach and only 2 rooms to rent...you would either be doing your own cooking or Flo can arrange a chef, and eating locally. It's a geat working village where tourism has barely visited.

Enjoy your visit.
