We did our 3rd Carnival Sail last November. Carnival do a range of trips that all leave from the marina at Vigie. What they usually do is put more that 1 tour on to the catamaran for the sail down to Sourfriere & then everyone splits up to do whatever trip they are booked to do. The only down side with this is that you might not get to go back on the same catamaran so you have to carry everything with you rather than leaving it on the boat.

On the whole the trips are pretty good the guides are knowledgeable & at the drive in volcano you will have an official guide anyway. Also on the last trip we were taken to a tourist shop in Soufriere, this is not usual, & we for one don't like being told we have to look round this shop or that one because it belongs to a friend of the guide.

Also you do need to remember that the full name for the Company is Carnival Sailing Party Cruises. It is exactly that - a party! They are great fun but not for all. From the time you board the catamaran they play reggae & calypso type music, & the drinks start to flow. On the return trip they usually serve canapes & snacks which are ok but nothing special & again the champagne, Pitons & rum punch flows. The staff will also try & get you to join in the dancing, if you've ever wanted to learn to 'twerk' this is the place to be. Fine if you want to join in but if you want to enjoy the sunset it can be a nuisance!

The Carnival sails are great fun and yes, the staff do try to get the guests partying. Watch out for the rum punch. In my younger days I used to do these trips and have the scars to prove it. Very easy to fall if trying to dance under the influence (cough!)

Bring plenty of sunscreen for this one and a cheap waterproof camera. You can buy these on the island but probably cheaper to get before you go... Have a lovely time!

PS, another idea is to do the combined Jeep/Boat tour. That way you get to see parts of the island that people don't see so much and it is beautiful. After all the hard work balancing on the Jeep the Boat part is very relaxing.
