Ferry to other islands

Hi TA!

We are looking at visiting St. Lucia for our honeymoon next month! We were thinking about staying there 1/2 the time and the other half at a nearby island. Is there an inexpensive way to get to a nearby island? Perhaps a ferry? If so what are the costs? And which island do you recommend?

Is it worth doing this to get more of the typical caribbean beach with turquoise water and white sand or can we find this in St. Lucia.

Bon jou autie,

Depends what you mean by inexpensive...

Wave Riders (stluciawaveriders.com) and Express des Isles (www.expres-des-iles.com) operate ferries north to Martinique and the French islands.

Night's Gold www.(nightsgoldcharter.com) operates a cabin cruiser south to Saint Vincent. From there, take another ferry to Bequia.

Otherwise, you will find x-amount small & large beaches with many different sand colors and all the shades-of-blue seas here in Saint Lucia...

Bless up! Paul

The ferry travel thing to another island from St. Lucia always seems like a good idea but then when you look into the cost (it's not cheap), travel time, and hassle factor (the trips don't always go when you want or don't go at all because there isn't enough demand) you kind of get a different picture, especially if your time on island is somewhat limited. There's a lot to do on the unique island of St. Lucia to keep you busy even for a longer trip such as three weeks. St Lucia offers a lot of diversity from the north to the south, from the Caribbean side to the Atlantic side. You'll find small local beaches, larger touristy beaches, beaches with good reefs for snorkeling, beaches that are so quaint you hardly see a soul, beaches with great views of the Pitons, beaches that are good for water/sport activities, white sand beach (Sugar Beach), black sand beaches, tan beaches ... the list goes on. If you are looking for different adventures for your honeymoon maybe consider staying in one part of the island (perhaps up north) where you can do tourist activities (shopping, sunbathing, international dinning, "spaing," cocktailing--is that a sport?) , and then switching to another part, such as down south where you can explore waterfalls, the Pitons, the rainforest, local food and culture, the reef system for snorkeling, etc. If you like doing outdoor things and want diversity you probably likely won't be bored. Then, you can always save a trip to another island as an anniversary. There's always another island to explore ...
