The Landing vrs Bay Garden Beach Resort

Will be staying at Sandels Grande for 4 days but an trying to decide between the Landing and Bay Garden Beach Resort. We are 30 and 34 and will be coming for our honeymoon. We like nice beach, rooms, friendly service and people around our age. Don't get me wrong-don't mind older but just don't want to be in the great minority. We would also like some nightime entertainment but if there is none at the facility-is there entertainment in the area? Also , how far are these resorts to Sandels Grande?

If you want some nightlife and various dining opportunities, the Bay Gardens Beach Resort is the way to go. It is located in Rodney Bay, easy 2-15 minute walking distance to over 25 restaurants and bars, clubs, entertainment, etc. Located on a great stretch of beach for swimming and lots of different watersports for hire.

We love the Landings and stay once a year during Jazz, however there is nothing else around it - the only things really in walking distance are Pigeon Island (you have to walk past the Grande to get there), and parts of Gros Islet village (and not the nicest parts). You would need a taxi in to RB for dining, shopping, entertainment, etc. if you wanted to eat off property. Lovely stretch of beach and the condos are fantastic, but you are fairly isolated and end up doing most everything at the resort.

Landings is a 10 minute walk from the Grande, BGBR is a 10 minute taxi ride from the Grande. Enjoy whichever you choose.

You can see all the rooms types of both at their websites. And yes, there is a variety of ages and nationalities at both. At The Landings, there will be much less interaction between guests as it is an all condo resort, where some of the condos are occupied by owners living there full time and some are vacationers. As they are so self contained, and there are several pool areas, etc, the interaction level between guests is minimal at best. In 6 stays, we've never met any of the other guests at the resort, and we are pretty darn sociable people.

At BGBR, it is a traditional resort, with all vacation guests, also it is a smaller property by far, so guests have much more of a chance to interact, not to mention being in RB Village itself, where there are lots of other hotels and guesthouses, bars, clubs, etc with lots of vacationers to meet, along with a large sprinkling of locals to interact with, so your chances of making new friends is much higher!

The rooms at BGBR are not quite as luxurious as those at the Landings, but the location and nearby amenities more than make up for it. If you want a bit more luxury in the RB area, check out the Royal by Rex or Coco Palm - both very good properties also and located right in the village also. BGBR is a solid resort with very clean, comfortable, well appointed rooms, great pool, good onsite restaurants and bar, and nice stretch of beach out in front (on the quiet end of the beach).

You wouldn't go wrong with either, but given your stated preferences, I think BGBR would be a much better fit. Enjoy your visit!

Rell123,

We have stayed at BGBR several times.

There are 3 types of rooms available a standard room (called deluxe), a one bedroom suite and a 2 bedroom suite. Each of these rooms can be found in 3 locations, Garden View, Pool View and Beachfront.

I would suggest you want a standard room or a one bed suite. The Standard room has 2 double beds or one queensize bed (request this if you want that) and a nice bathroom all very well furnished, fridge, TV, CD player, coffee maker etc, balcony/patio. A good 4 star but neither 5 star nor as far as I can gather as luxurious as the Landings.

The one bed suite has a queensize bed in the master bedroom with an ensuite bathroom. In a separate room there is a lounge/kitchen/diner with a sofa bed. Furnished as above but with a kitchen inc a bigger fridge/freezer, a microwave and a cooker. You basically get a bit more space plus the ability do some cooking (eg we often do our own breakfast and sandwich lunch).

The Beach Front Rooms are stunning 10 yards from the beach and 25 yards from the sea. I recommend you request a 2nd floor room for the best view(no lift though). Having said all that no room is more than 80 yards from the beach.

Not repeating the above too much you get a varied mixture of people there and loads of bars/restaurants to walk to.

Any further questions fire away

Bon jnou rell123,

All are in the same area of Rodney Bay (Gros Islet)...

The Landings is next-door to Sandal's Grande and BGBR is on the beach just across the canal entrance to Rodney Bay Marina from SGSL and The Landings.

Best to see & experience more of the island - especially Soufriere & The Pitons World Heritage Site in the southwest - while you are here, yes?

Bless up! Paul
