Getting to Piton Hike...

I have sifted through this forum for directions to the Piton hike, but haven't had any luck. We will be driving from the south. Particularly, I'm interested in combining the hike and a snorkel after. Could someone offer specific directions on where to go to meet the guides and then hit the beach for snorkeling? Are there signs or a common parking lot?

Do the guides work on a specific time schedule? Do you need to setup a time in advance?

The hike starts just off the main road. Depends on where in the South you are coming from. If near Ladera you would continue further south. If near Vieux Fort then you will be heading North. Where to turn is well marked. Anyone can tell you where it is if you get lost.

It is best to hike early in the day as it gets very hot and humid later. Takes about 2 hours up and 2 hours down. No need to set up a time in advance. The area should be open from 8 am to 5 pm, possibly 7 am. You can ask your guide where is best and closest for snorkeling. You are making the whole process into more than you need to. It's very laid back and the guides are great and knowledgeable.

It is very well signed off of the main road, but is surprisingly south and east of the Piton. It seems like you are going too far out of the way, but due to a bridge out on another road, that is where you have to go. And it is probably close to 20 minutes driving through rural roads from the main highway, but al of the turns are well signed. Our guide told us Anse L'Ivrogne is the closest beach, but unless you are starting from that trailhead, it probably makes more sense to go closer to where you are staying. We went to Jalousie/Sugar Beach afterwards as it was on our way and is very good snorkeling. The walk down to the beach was a little tough on our legs, but we felt fine on the way up after snorkeling.

Bon jou haymor_w,

Driving from the south (heading north to the Gros Piton) follow the West Coast Road past the turn-off for the village of Choiseul.

Continue driving about 10 min until you come to the gap at Victoria.

Head to the left past a large bright yellow & red Rum Shop.

Follow the green sign for Gros Piton trailhead (in the village of Fond Gens Libres) downhill through Victoria then (at the green sign) take a sharp right through Ravinneau and then Bois Den.

Finally (15 mins) you arrive at a T-intersection (with another green sign) turn right to Fond Gens Libres.

Cross the bridge and park up the hill.

Turn Left at the T-intersection to Delcer Combined School then turn right & drive 10 mins downhill to Morell's Rum Shop overlooking Anse L'Ivrogne.

A short walk down through the rainforest brings you to our base AND the Gros Piton beach trailhead.

it is reasonably well signed - we had no trouble finding it. If you get lost, ask for directions - most locals know the roads fairly well.

If you are unaccustomed to climbing, the hike can be very tiring. If you don't have your heart set on snorkeling, consider a relaxing soak at New Jerusalem Mineral Springs afterwards or check out the mudbath at Sulphur Springs Park.

Thanks for the tip! It may be too much to consider snorkeling in the same trip. This will be our first trip to St. Lucia and we don't want to miss the highlights.
