While I haven't stayed there, I can tell you I know many who have and they really like it. We stay just down the road at the Atrium and love the area. I don't believe there is enterntainment on site, as is normal for most places on the island.

Yes, you can walk to many restaurants and bars, if you can manage a small hill.

Nearby, besides the Atrium, are Flamingo, LaVista and Royal Palm.

Yes, you will need a car. Taxis are expensive and can be hard to get in the evenings.

We have stayed at the Pelican 3 times and are returning again this fall. It is a nice quiet resort, I don't believe it has music and entertainment at the pools, but does have the Red Piano lounge that plays in the evenings. There are so many places nearby to eat and party that we seldom drive out at night anymore. We always rent a car because we like to go to Orient Beach during the day, but only venture out to Grand Case one or two nights while there. There is a wide variety of restaurants within walking distance (as SXM lover said, if you can walk the hills). It is our favorite area to stay in. The Pelican is not a 5 star resort, but a nice place to lay your head and relax at.

Pelican USED to be a five star resort!!!!! Have owned there for 25 years!!!

Have been there ONCE in the past 10 yrs......................and will more than likely never return!!!

Have been using my timeshare weeks to travel elsewhere in the world, as the island's charm (at least for me) is long, long, gone. I'm extremely fortunate, though, to have experienced a true "paradise", before the very first Pizza Huts, KFC's and Burger Kings moved in. Along w/ this over-commercialization, came the 2 hr traffic jams, the once "secret" beaches, now look like Coney Island did in the 1920's (not that I was around then!! -lol-), and a variety of other issues I have with this place! But hey, nothing lasts forever........

Be warned about Pelican if you look to BUY!! ---Last year they put up a new building--right behind the "D" building--which now blocks, what was once coined "The Million Dollar View" by the tenants. Now the balconies overlook this new building and no more Simpson Bay view for us. BTW, when we originally bought, we were told they NEVER would disturb that view. That was their main selling point for this building when the units first went up for sale!! Now the weeks that were oringinally purchased for like $4K (for a 99 yr deed) get me 2 bedroom suites, elsewhere, that would run $1500-$2500 just to stay a single week!!! The maintanance now is something like $800+......so it's still a deal and a half for my family. We picked up about 8 weeks total back in the 80's...........now they are spread out between generations................and maybe ONE, per year, is ever used in SXM!!

Besides that, Pelican itself is pretty nice, quiet, & relaxing. I think my last trip was 4 yrs ago. No issues at that time. Had a blast. Cannot comment about the restaurants or casino there as I always partied elsewhere on the island................
