Importing food/meats into st Maartin

We are planning a weeklong bareboat charter on a sailboat in February. Prior to our departure we will provision our boat with food for the week. Sometimes it is hard to find items in the carribean grocery stores. Does anyone know what items are allowed to go through customs - specifically items we can bring from the states? For example...peanut butter?, coffee? Frozen Chicken? I haven't been able to locate what can/can not be legally imported.

you can import anything into the island..that's not a problem.

but on SXM, you really don't need to bother. We have large and well stocked grocery stores and you can get anything here.

Le Grand Marche as Bobcat indicated is the largest and best retail supermarket with several branches on the island.

We also have Cost U Less which is like a Costco's, where you can also buy most of what you want.

Most prices are comparable to the States. With the added cost for over wieght luggage you are best to buy in SXM.

Thanks for your post. We have traveled to other islands/countries where shopping has been very sparse. To make it easy for our first night, I was hoping to make up a meal in the states, deep freeze it and then just have to thaw it upon our arrival. It is nice to know I can do this, but then save the space in our suitcases for everything else that we can buy at the grocery stores.

Don't forget that St. Maarten has absolutely fabulous restaurants. You can also treat yourself and have a nice dinner out before you sail, if you want.

To answer your question, you can bring any food item you'ed like,to SXM. They have an immigration stop but no customs check----you can bring your pet (s) if you want.
