We don't stay at Sonesta in Maho but know the hotel very well. What is it you are curious about? The location is great for first timers, it is situated within a small complex of stores, restaurants and casino and has a very nice pool area with swim-up bar and then a more quiet pool toward the lookout area. The rooms are typical hotel rooms and it's best to get a "pool view" room rather than facing the street or back. If you don't get a pool view room, request it when checking in. There are cabs right outside the door of the hotel and a short 5 minute walk takes you to Mullet which is one of the nicer beaches on the island. They have a small beach which lately has been good and it's near the airport so you can have fun watching the huge planes arrive in the afternoon. Other than that, the photos on their webite pretty much tell it all.

Stayed here for 12 days this past May (our 6th year).

Like the prior poster, I agree getting a pool/ocean view. Their Premier Rooms have all been updated, another good choice. Their web site has all the info and rates listed. Check it out first, then compare with your favorite travel site/ or travel agent to find best deal. We travel as a group and take the A/I package as well. Well worth it if you're a drinker. Any questions, post them and be glad to answer for you.

We were there three years ago. It will be interesting to see what if any changes have taken place at the hotel when we travel there next month. One change we will see and appreciate will be the new airport facilities.

hi all! thanks so much for all of you input. i changed my reservation to a "premier" room from the standard room. i also req. a pool view rather than the island view. i did take the all inclusive option as well. my travel agent said that with the A/I the unlimited beverages is only offered from 11a to 11p daily. is this true? not that i am complaining just curious. any food recommendations? whats the best time to get down to the pool or beach to get a seat? also anyone do any of the sightseeing tours like to anguilla or st barths? thanks again everyone.

Regarding the pool and beach, you should not have a problem getting a seat as many people go out to the various beaches during the day and the 2 pools have plenty of lounges. The main pool usually has activities during the afternoon. I hear many people laughing so it must be fun. This also has the swim up bar and a nice waterfall.

The beach can come and go so depending on the width of the beach as well as the wave action will depend on seating although I have never seen people having any sort of problem getting one. There are also lounge chairs just above the beach.

Regarding the various trips offered, most are excellent and I have yet to hear any complaints regarding the price or destinations of any of them. The only issue I read once is that a certain one (don't know the name) that took them to Anguilla dropped them off and bused them to the specified beach and then bused them back again to the boat. Not sure what they were expecting but I would assume that this is the norm but I guess they weren't expecting this. I heard that the one that stops at Prickley Pear is a fun trip. There are many to choose from and worth it, even just to see the island from the water.

Regarding the food, try to take advantage of the coupon to Paris Bistro and get an outer seat to watch the street show (may only be on the weekends during low season) at 9:00 PM. A fun thing to watch while eating or having dessert. And their food is very good. Bernard is the owner so if you happen to see him, if you happen to remember, tell him that Vicki and Rick said hello and that we'll see him in December. He's a doll and we have known him for years (met him through a site like this) and he will make sure that you are comfortable.

Just booked this hotel today and am curious about the A/I.

I was reading on the reviews that the A/I is for a variety of restaurants, yet there doesn't seem to be mention of them on the hotels website. Do they give vouchers for other places in the area? How do you go about making reservations?

Also, is room service included in the A/I rate?

Dress code for the restaurants?

Anything else that I should know?

Thank you.

A/I is good for breakfast/lunch/dinner at hotel eateries. Beer/wine/tropical drinks/soda/coffee included. They do have top shelf brands and a good selection of bottle beers, both local/imported/and American. Voucher is for several local restaurants and is a limited menu, or a discount towards any other selections. The A/I does not apply towards room service. They do have a fine dining venue, The Point, slacks are required for men. (Dockers OK).

Have been there several times, always pleased. When are you going? Any questions, post and I'll reply.

Thanks for your reply. It's a spur of the moment trip.. will be heading out in just about 2 weeks.

Are there any restaurants you would recommend for which they offer vouchers?

Do you have to make reservations for these restaurants?

Also, I see that you are also from NJ. I contacted Sprint and it doesn't seem that my cell phone will be working. Have you ever taken advantage of the internet at the hotel? Happen to know prices?

I had another question, but it now escapes me - I'll post again if it comes to me.
